#ISRESP2017

Due to the situation in Catalonia, there was much speculation as to whether we would enter another period of drought with regard to State visits in Spain. Felipe VI and Letizia together with the Government decided to show the world that the obligations and commitments of state are to be fulfilled. And we thank them for that.

The President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin accompanied by his wife Mrs. Nechama Rivlin were received last Monday at an official welcome ceremony at the Royal Palace of Madrid. The couple paid a two-day visit to Spain at the invitation of the King and the Spanish Government.

During the official ceremony, the anthems of both countries were played, 21 cannon salutes were fired and the heads of state of the two countries reviewed the battalion of the Royal Guard that also paraded in this ceremony.

The Israeli President and the First Lady later went to the Zarzuela Palace, where King Felipe and Queen Letizia offered a luncheon, and where later there were some meetings between the delegations of both countries in view of the bilateral relations between the state of Israel and Spain.

Queen Letizia chose to wear a simple plum-colored dress that she wore beneath a trench coat at the welcome ceremony. Honestly, I think it was too simple and casual for a State Visit.

At night, the royal couple offered a State Dinner at the Royal Palace of Madrid, in honor of the illustrious guests. Present members of the delegation of Israel, representatives of the Spanish Government and the King Household, representatives of institutions and personalities with prominence in civil society.

This was a relatively discreet and short State Visit, but still, and if you have nothing to do today, you may want to admire for 14 minutes the greetings session that always takes place at each State Dinner. I always like to admire how uncomfortable the majority of people feel in these situations, either by the clothes, or because they are being photographed, or by the protocol they have to follow. Oh, yes, and forget about the curtesies in Spain, because such thing does not seem to happen there!

On his speech during the State Dinner, Felipe VI,  Monarch of a country that once persecuted the Jews, said that today Israel has an ally in Spain:

"Our democratic Spain, which integrates the heritage of diversity, today claims its historical ties with the Jewish people. For this reason, we look forward to seeing Sephardic people from all over the world arrive in Spain and, without losing their previous nationality, become our new compatriots, from whom we are very proud. In this sense, we will never forget the solemn ceremony that brought us together in this same Palace two years ago to commend the importance of the historic meeting which was the approval of the Law on the granting of Spanish nationality to Spain's Sephardic Jews."

For the State Dinner Letizia chose a black skirt with embroidery with typically Spanish floral motifs. A skirt that has been in her closet since her early years as Princess of Asturias. A skirt I like a lot.

However this look was completely ruined, in my opinion, when Letizia decided to wear a bustier style top. The piece was previously used in 2006, precisely with this skirt, during a celebrations in Luxembourg. The difference of that time for this, is that Letizia with all the transformations that suffered at the aesthetic level, is more confident and, true must be said, more beautiful!

A Consorte espanhola voltou a escolher a Tiara Floral Mellerio.
The Spanish Consort again chose the Mellerio Floral Tiara. To complete the  Gemelas bracelets of the joyas de pasar and a pair of diamonds and pearls earrings, that were used by Infanta Elena of Spain on her wedding day.

But do you know what I really loved ?? It was the affection of the Spanish Queen with the First Lady of Israel. Nechama Rivlin was diagnosed in 2007 with pulmonary fibrosis, a consequence of her long history of smoking. The first lady has adapted to the new circumstances of her state of health that forces her to be accompanied by an oxygen machine that helps her breathe.

Her condition, however, does not prevent her from continuing her official obligations and giving her example to smoking-related diseases: "We are not born with a cigarette in our mouths, it is a habit that we can change and we have the obligation to educate our children so they do not smoke. "
The first lady of Israel has done remarkable work in defending the environment and the rights of women and children, breaking down barriers with a speech of peace, dialogue and tolerance.

The next day, the President of the State of Israel and the First Lady invited the King and Queen to a reciprocal reception that took place last night at the El Prado Royal Palace, the residence of the Israeli couple during this visit.

During the reception, the two couples and other guests were able to watch the performance of the Israel Orchestra Andalusi formed by 27 musicians and two soloists, and where they interpreted typical Sephardic songs.

For this occasion, the Spanish Queen wore another black cocktail dress with white polka dots, because for Letizia, there is no limit to the number of dresses of this type in her royal closet. I confess that I much prefer this look to the gala look worn at the state dinner.

Perfect hairstyle and makeup with a diamonds touch that can't never look bad!
(Except for the Duchess of Cambridge who wears diamonds and long dresses and then forgets to get her hair done ... There are things I will never understand ...)

  1. Wow! Leti looks just beautiful! Her make-up is flawless and the hair is just perfect on the state dinner event. I agree with you on the trench coat, that is something she can wear when she is "private' person, not on royal events :-)

    1. Thanks for your comment. Indeed the first look was misplaced.
