#Prinsjesdag2016

Yesterday it took place another Opening of Parliament. One of the most anticipated of the year. In happened in The Hague, Netherlands.

On this day, known as Parliament Opening Day / Budget Day or among us as Prinsjesdag, King Willem-Alexander accompanied by Queen Maxima left the Noordeinde Palace in the glass carriage towards the Binnenhof , where he would address a speech at the Ridderzaal (Hall of Knights) .

On its way the royal procession passes in front of The Mauritshuis Museum of Art, where they were greeted by Princess Beatrix, the former sovereign, who since 2013, the year of her abdication, does not participate in this great event of the Dutch royal calendar.

After the arrival of the King and Queen to the Knights' Hall, the session begins. The meeting is attended by the ministers and state secretaries, representatives of the diplomatic corps and the High Council of State (State Council, Court of Auditors, the Ombudsman, King's Office. Supreme Council of Nobility and Chancellery) and other representatives of various sectors of society.

The King then gives the usual Throne Speech in which the important points are revealed to be considered by the Government next year. Willem-Alexander said that the Netherlands has grown in recent years and that the damage done by the economic crisis seem to have fallen behind:

"Over the past few years the Netherlands has got back on firmer ground. The financial and economic crisis is behind us. We live in a prosperous and attractive country, which compares favourably with other countries. We have good public services and good infrastructure, and the rule of law is strong. There is a lot to be proud of and to build on."

However, Willem-Alexander also notes that in wake of a new era, there are problems that exist and leave the Dutch people unquiet:

"With everything that is going on in the world, it’s understandable for us as a society to feel anxiety and cling to what we know. After all, the international terrorist threat, instability on Europe’s external borders, the refugee issue and economic uncertainty on the global markets are real problems with a big impact on daily life."

The Brexit was also not been forgotten:

"The risks and uncertainties facing our open and internationally oriented economy mainly come from abroad. We feel the impact of lower growth in emerging markets like China and Brazil. The prospect of Brexit is a new source of uncertainty in Europe that affects the Netherlands directly. The United Kingdom is an important trading partner and Brexit will cost jobs in our country too. The government’s aim is to maintain its strong economic ties with the UK."

Willem-Alexander referiu ainda a questão do terrorismo:
Willem-Alexander also mentioned the issue of terrorism:

"Cooperation within Europe is crucial in the fight against terrorism. In the European Union, the Netherlands is working hard to improve information-sharing between European intelligence and investigative agencies, strengthen joint border control, stem the flow of terrorist financing, and enhance cybersecurity."

O Reu finalizou:
The King ended:

"The Netherlands is a strong country in an unstable world. The results we have achieved together in recent years enable us to look forward with confidence. It would be unwise to underestimate the problems and international uncertainties facing the Netherlands. But history teaches us that ‘steady progress’ is possible by working together towards solutions, both in our own country and with our international partners."

The speech that touched various points such as economic growth, unemployment, the refugee crisis and the fight against terrorism, climate change and sustainability, and it can be read in full here.

This year the famous golden carriage did not come out to the street, but our dear Maxima made sure to bring us the bling that a solemn event of this kind asks for.

When I thought that it would be hard to beat last year's look, Maxima shows us that she allways can do more. The Queen chose a set of two pieces created by Claes Iversen.

The two piece set consists of a midnight blue Armure silk blouse and a golden double skirt. The skirt is also embroidered in midnight blue with application of small sequins and presents an asymmetrical pattern gradient.

Completing the Queen wore a huge gold  hat and a long earrings pair with sapphires and diamonds. The final touch came from the huge bow brooch with sapphires and diamonds that belonged to Queen Wilhelmina, which Maxima wore at the waist to hold the sashe of the Grand Cross of the Order of the Lion Dutch.

Also present at the ceremony, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien. Laurentine wore a long dress in metallic mesh that completed with a hat in two layers of black. A very heavy look in my opinion.

The two couples greeted the population in Royal Palace's balcony completing this way a ceremony that always seems to me too short for such pomp.
