A Argentina em Espanha - Dia 1 / Argentina in Spain - Day 1

Yesterday was Christmas, Easter, Carnival and any other holiday you may celebrate, all in one day. It is always a great joy to see a State Visit (and State Dinner!)! Even more so when it is the first State Dinner in over 600 days in Spain!

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia are the hosts of the President of Argentina, Maurico Macri and the First Lady Juliana Awada. The Argentine couple is in Spain on a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening historical, economic and cultural ties between the two countries.

Soon at the welcome ceremony we had a pleasant surprise. For the first time, the official reception took place in the Royal Palace Square. It seems that the Spanish King thinks this is the most suitable place to receive a head of state instead of the usual ceremony that always took place in the Gardens of the El Prado Palace.

And who am I to contradict a King ?? By all means, it was on full mode that Felipe and Letizia welcomed the Argentine couple. A ceremony in which the athems from two countries were played, in which the two heads of state inspected the Royal Guard, in which 21 cannon salutes were fired and a military parade closed the ceremony.

E usa-o bem! Bem jogado Felipe!!
A very low profile affair, as you can see... I allways thought: If you have a Palace, use it! And use it well! Well played Felipe !!

Later the royal couple received their guests in the Zarzuela Palace where they had lunch and gathered in private.

Let's now take a look on the ladies's fashion. Well, the First Lady of Argentina is known for her good taste and a fashion "duel" between Juliana and the Queen of Spain was already in the cards.

Both were flawless in my opinion. Appearing to have matched on the choice of colors and lace details, both radiated confidence, elegance and sophistication. I confess that my heart beat stronger for the First Lady of Argentina (although that fur on the coat neckline, still make me hives).

Letizia was lovely in her soft pink Varela's suit, previously seen on several occasions, and maybe for this reason I expected something more from her ... Even because her accessories game didn't change...

And then we had the Gala Dinner and with that many, but many contradictory feelings !!!

Percebem a minha dor?
Do you feel my pain? No? So I'll explain. First of all: FLEUR DE LYS TIARA!!!!!!! Yes, in capital letters and with several exclamation points, because the occasion deserves it!
It was the first time that Letizia wore an exclusive tiara for a Queen. The greatest tiara in the Spanish royal vaults. A tiara I did not expect to see so early (or perhaps never) on Felipe VI's consort.

Did I liked it? No ... And I'm so sad about it ... I blame the dress without volume and the too wide sashe of the Order of the Liberator General San Martin from Argentina. Letizia is very petite and with these great pieces and with this dress that enhances her small stature it seems she is playing dressing up queens. BUT, I think Leti knew how to wear this tiara. I like the way it was placed on her head.

Once again, the First-Lady of Argentina won points for me on her gorgeous dress, but at least I can say that I died and saw Queen Letizia of Spain with the Fleur de Lys Tiara.

In addition Letizia used two diamond bracelets and earrings that are part of the joyas of pasar (jewels inherited from Queen to Queen. There are times, my friends,  when we have to grab on to anything positive to overcome a disaster like this ... Yep, I heard myself !!

PS: The saddest of all this? It's just that I love the black velvet dress. I think it sits wonderfully well on Letizia and serves as the perfect backdrop for such diamonds display. But the whole set (and that sash) does not favor her!

  1. Lurdes I feel your pain! My reaction was exactly the same as yours, but reading other blogs I see people raving about her looks on this occasion... It is such a shame that she was swamped by that huge sash.

    1. Thanks on your comment Barbara. We feel the pain together :). I read other blogs too, and I guess it's a matter of opinions at the end of the day.

  2. Leti's black dress is so pretty, BUT the sash and that big tiara ruin the whole look for me. Don't misunderstand me, the tiara is so beautiful, but it's way to big for her.
