A "Tia" Daisy fez 80 anos / "Auntie" Daisy turned 80

Quando 2020 começou havia uma data que todos mal podíamos esperar que chegasse: 16 de Abril. Se existe alguém que faz festas como ninguém é a Rainha Margrethe II da Dinamarca e o seu 80º aniversário seria certamente uma ocasião em que a realeza europeia se iriaa juntar em Copenhaga para uma mega celebração. O programa das festividades chegou a ser anunciado e algumas casas reais confirmaram a sua presença, mas eis que uma pandemia chega e vira o nosso mundo do avesso, e as celebrações foram naturalmente canceladas - juntamente com grande parte da agenda oficial pelo menos até Julho. Com poucos meses de existência 2020 estava destinado a ser um ano deveras deprimente para qualquer royal watcher e um ano particularmente difícil para todos nós.
When 2020 started, there was a date that we could hardly wait for: April 16th. If there is anyone who parties like nobody else, it is Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her 80th birthday would certainly be an occasion when European royalty would come together in Copenhagen for a mega celebration. The festivities program was announced and some royal houses confirmed their presence, but behold, a pandemic arrives and turns our world inside out, and the celebrations were naturally canceled - along with much of the official agenda at least until July. With only a few months of existence, 2020 was destined to be a very depressing year for any royal watcher and a particularly difficult year for all of us.

Para começar a Casa Real Dinamarquesa usou o seu Instagram oficial para divulgar uma série de novas fotografias por ocasião do aniversário da soberana. As fotografias partilhadas são autoria do fotografo Per Morten Abrahamsen e foram tiradas no final do ano passado em dois locais distintos: o Palácio Christian IX em Amalienborg e no Palácio Fredensborg.
To start, the Danish Royal House used its official Instagram to publish a series of new photographs on the occasion of the sovereign's birthday. The shared photographs were taken by photographer Per Morten Abrahamsen and were taken at the end of last year in two different locations: the Christian IX Palace in Amalienborg and the Fredensborg Palace.

No primeiro conjunto divulgado, Margrethe II aparece com os seus dois herdeiros, o Príncipe da Coroa Frederik e o seu filho mais velho, o Príncipe Christian. Foram as primeiras fotografias oficiais da Rainha com os dois herdeiros desde a altura em que Christian tinha aproximadamente 1 ano. A Rainha está deslumbrante em todas. Mas tanto pai como filho parecem pouco confortáveis e existe sempre algum detalhe que não me agrada em cada fotografia.
In the first set released, Margrethe II appears with her two heirs, Crown Prince Frederik and his eldest son, Prince Christian. They were the first official photographs of the Queen with the two heirs since Christian was about 1 year old. The Queen is stunning in all. But both father and son seem uncomfortable and there is always some detail I deslike in each picture.

Gennem tiden er Hendes Majestæt Dronningen blevet fotograferet adskillige gange. Både af pressefotografer, men også af befolkningen, når Majestæten deltager i officielle begivenheder. En række billeder er dog noget ganske særligt. Det er de officielle portrætfotografier, som oftest bliver taget i forbindelse med særlige mærkedage i Dronningens liv. Sammen med fotografen er Dronningen involveret i processen bag portrætbillederne, og i mange år var det afdøde Rigmor Mydtskov, der tog officielle billeder af Dronningen. I dette opslag ses en række af Mydtskovs portrætter af Majestæten: fra tronbestigelsen i 1972 til 60-års fødselsdagen i 2000. Se flere billeder på Kongehuset hjemmeside. Foram também divulgados alguns dos retratos oficiais mais emblemáticos da Rainha da Dinamarca: jóias, brocados, grandes vestidos de baile, poses teatrais e régias em contraste com a simplicidade de um sorriso fácil. A nossa Daisy!

Na véspera do seu aniversário foi lançado um documentário na DR1 que mostra a vertente mais artística da Rainha da Dinamarca, longe dos actos oficiais de Chefe de Estado. Cenógrafa, figurinista e artista, o interesse da monarca pela Arte é o foco deste documentário que pode ser visto aqui.
On the eve of her birthday, a documentary was released on DR1 showing the most artistic aspect of the Queen of Denmark, far from the official acts as the Head of State. Set designer, costume designer and artist, the monarch's interest in art is the focus of this documentary that can be seen here.







I dag offentliggøres to nye portrætter af Hendes Majestæt Dronningen i anledning af den forestående 80-års fødselsdag. Portrætterne er taget af fotograf Per Morten Abrahamsen på Fredensborg Slot i september 2019. På det første billede ses Dronningen i sit arbejdsværelse på Fredensborg Slot. Rummet, som også var arbejdsværelse for Dronning Ingrid, stod oprindeligt i hvidt og guld, men i 1999 fik Dronningen stuen malet om efter de oprindelige røde farver. ”Hvis man giver et lille rum en kraftig farve, så er det pludselig ikke så lille. Det ophæver begrænsningen i rummet”, har Dronningen fortalt om restaureringen af arbejdsværelset. På det andet billede sidder Dronningen i Havesalen på Fredensborg Slot, som gennem slottets 300-årige historie har dannet ramme om en række portrætter af den kongelige familie. Mais duas novas fotografias foram também divulgadas. A primeira fotografia mostra a Rainha no seu escritório no Palácio de Fredensborg. A sala também era a sala de trabalho da sua mãe, a Rainha Ingrid. Em 1999, Margrethe decidiu substituir as cores branco e dourado por vermelho afirmando que "Quando uma sala pequena é pintada como uma cor forte, de repente já não parece tão pequena assim". Na segunda fotografia a Rainha aparece sentada no Garden Hall no Palácio de Fredensborg, onde se encontram vários retratos da família real dinamarquesa.
Also two new photographs were released. The first photograph shows the Queen in her office at Fredensborg Palace. The room was also her mother's work room - Queen Ingrid. In 1999, Margrethe decided to replace the colors white and gold with red, stating that "When a small room is painted with a strong color, it suddenly doesn't look that small anymore". In the second photograph the Queen appears sitting in the Garden Hall at Fredensborg Palace, where there are several portraits of the Danish royal family.


O dia do aniversário começou com mais uma fotografia tirada no Palácio de Fredensborg. No Instagram oficial da Casa Real Dinamarquesa foi criado um destaque onde foram partilhados 80 dados sobre a aniversariante. Durante o dia as pessoas poderiam enviar os seus votos de parabéns através do site da Monarquia Dinamarquesa. Mas há tradições das quais os dinamarqueses não quiseram abrir mão...
The Birthday started with another photo taken at Fredensborg Palace. A highlight was created on the official Instagram of the Danish Royal House where 80 data about the birthday girl were shared. During the day people could send their congratulatory votes via the Danish Monarchy website. But there are traditions that the Danes did not want to give up ... 



Geralmente a Rainha é saudada logo pela manhã à janela do seu quarto por família e admiradores ao som de Parabéns a Você. Este ano, dadas as medidas de contingência devido ao Covid-19, desaconselhou-se a aglomeração de pessoas nas imediações do Palácio de Fredensborg, onde a Rainha se encontrava. O Príncipe da Coroa Frederik e a sua família, bem como o Príncipe Joachim e respectiva família, estavam nas suas residências em Copenhaga em isolamento voluntário. Ainda assim o staff do Palácio quis saudar a sua monarca e aos acordes de "Na Dinamarca eu nasci, aqui é a minha casa" assinalaram com a devida distância de segurança o 80º aniversário da sua Rainha. E eis que somos brindados com imagens da Rainha em camisa de noite e cabelo solto, a ouvir e agradecer. Só mesmo Daisy!!
Usually the Queen is greeted early in the morning at her bedroom window by family and admirers to the sound of Happy Birthday to You. This year, given the contingency measures due to Covid- 19, the gathering of people in the vicinity of Fredensborg Palace, where the Queen was, was discouraged. Crown Prince Frederik and his family, as well as Prince Joachim and his family, were in their residences in Copenhagen in voluntary isolation. Even so, the Palace staff wanted to greet their monarch singing "In Denmark I was born, this is my home" marked with safety distance the 80th birthday of the Queen. A partir daqui foram só surpresas boas. Um video dos 8 netos de Margrethe com saudações de Feliz Aniversário foi divulgado. O Vincent é somente o melhor!!
From here, there were only good surprises. A video of Margrethe's 8 grandchildren with Happy Birthday greetings was released. Vincent is only the best !!


Uma emissão especial de aniversário foi conduzida pela televisão dinamarquesa. Ao meio-dia, dinamarqueses de todo o país cantaram canções tradicionais a Rainha, por ocasião de seu aniversário de 80 anos. Daisy ouviu a transmissão em Fredensborg.
A special anniversary broadcast was conducted on Danish television. At noon, Danes from around the country sang traditional songs for the Queen on her 80th birthday. Daisy heard the broadcast in Fredensborg.

Esta iniciativa da música conjunta foi tomada por Kim Bruhn, que havia convidado os dinamarqueses para o grupo no Facebook "Denmark sings for the Queen"- "A Dinamarca canta para a Rainha". Cerca de 180.000 pessoas estavam inscritas para a celebração. Os organizadores receberam mais de 1.300 sugestões de músicas.
This joint music initiative was taken by Kim Bruhn, who had invited the Danes to the Facebook group "Denmark sings for the Queen". About 180,000 people were registered for the celebration. Organizers received more than 1,300 song suggestions.


E depois...e depois...minha gente, tivemos o melhor do dia e talvez do ano!! Alguns membros da realeza europeia - que estariam em Copenhaga para as celebrações de Aniversário - enviaram mensagens de Feliz Aniversário para Daisy. Eu chorei muito a ver este vídeo, numa altura em que muitos de nós apenas podemos recorrer às ferramentas digitais para "estar" com os nossos familiares e amigos. Ninguém diria, mas acabámos por ter mesmo a grande reunião real que tanto queríamos neste dia. Melhor, só se todos tivessem em modo gala e tiara. Isso sim, teria sido genial!!! O WA e a Máxima estiveram perto ao brindarem com champanhe.
And then ... and then ... my people, we had the best of the day and maybe the year !! Some members of European royalty - who would be in Copenhagen for the Birthday celebrations - sent Happy Birthday messages to Daisy. I cried a lot watching this video, at a time when many of us can only use digital tools to "be" with our family and friends. Nobody would say, but we ended up having the big royal meeting that we wanted so much on this day. Better, only if everyone had appear in full gala and tiara. That would have been great !!!WA and Máxima were close by toasting with champagne.

Não foi a coisa mais linda de sempre? Uma pequena curiosidade: o quadro atrás do Grão-Duque e Grã-Duquesa do Luxemburgo foi pintado pela própria Rainha da Dinamarca. Curiosidade 2: Outra coisa que achei fantástica foi o facto de todos os da geração mais nova tratarem Daisy por tia, quando de facto ela não o é. Curiosidade 3: Victoria está a usar o Broche Daisy do design dinamarquês George Jesen. Olhem, este vídeo está a valer como o grande momento real até agora, e a tirar pelo primeiro trimestre, arrisco a dizer que será o momento do ano.

Wasn't it the most beautiful thing ever? A small curiosity: the painting behind the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg was painted by the Queen of Denmark herself. Curiosity 2: Another thing I found fantastic was the fact that everyone in the younger generation treated Daisy as aunt, when in fact she was not. Curiosity 3: Victoria is wearing the Danish Daisy Brooch by George Jesen. Look, this video is counting as the bigger royal moment so far, and taking it out for the first quarter, I dare say from the year.
Man, every time I watch the video I cry.


A Rainha Margrethe usando o seu tão característico broche em forma de margarida fez ao final do dia um discurso por ocasião do seu 80º aniversário. O discurso pode ser lido na integra aqui (em inglês). Vou apenas transcrever uma parte:
Queen Margrethe wearing her characteristic daisy brooch gave a speech at the end of the day on the occasion of her 80th birthday. The speech can be read in full here (in English). I'll just transcribe a part:

"Estou profundamente tocada com o facto de tantos de vós terem desejado comemorar o meu aniversário este ano. Agradeço de todo o coração pelas saudações, pelas canções e pelos muitos pensamentos que surgiram de todas as partes do Reino ao longo do dia.
A criatividade e imaginação dos dinamarqueses foram estupendas. Apesar de suas próprias preocupações e tristezas, muitos reservaram um tempo para me enviar os seus votos de parabéns.
Olhando para trás, irei lembrar-me do meu 80º aniversário como único, um dos mais memoráveis. Também aqui se mostra que, em momentos de crise, podemos e devemos unir-nos nas nossas comunidades - juntos, mas à distância."
"I am deeply moved that so many have wished to celebrate my birthday also this year. I thank you with all my heart for the greetings, the songs and the many thoughts that throughout the day have poured in from all parts of the Kingdom.

Ao fim do dia a Rainha Margrethe II contou com a presença dos dois filhos Frederik e Joachim e das noras Mary e Marie para um jantar familiar, mais pequeno do que o inicialmente previsto, mas com toda a certeza muito mais especial. (Se forem divulgadas fotografias, o post será actualizado).
At the end of the day, Queen Margrethe II was joined by her two sons Frederik and Joachim and  her daughters-in-law Mary and Marie for a family dinner, smaller than originally planned, but certainly much more special. (If photographs are released, the post will be updated).

    Fiquei triste ao saber que nossa querida rainha não poderia comemorar o aniversário por causa do vírus mas realmente já sabíamos que iria acontecer quando soubemos da chegada dele na europa, ainda mais um aniversário tão especial que foi 80 anos de vida é triste não poder comemorar! Porém pudemos ver esse lindo vídeo com diversas casas reais a desejando parabéns, assim como o vídeo de seus netos, pude ficar muito feliz ao ver como a realeza está unida e como sua majestade é querida por todos. Fiquei surpresa ao ver o vídeo da rainha pintando uma árvore, realmente um grande talento! E sinceramente não conhecia esse apelido Daisy e até agora considero bem inusitado.

    Viva a Rainha Margrethe!
