Rainha Letizia de Espanha recebe Prémio do Observatório contra a Violência Doméstica e de Género / Queen Letizia of Spain Receives Observatory Award against Domestic and Gender Violence

Ontem foi um dia importante para a Rainha Letizia de Espanha. Acompanhada pelo seu marido, o Rei Felipe VI, Letizia recebeu o "Prémio do Observatório contra a Violência Doméstica e de Género 2019" na categoria de Pessoa de Destaque, pelo seu compromisso na luta contra a violência doméstica e de género e pelo seu apoio às vítimas.

Yesterday was an important day for Queen Letizia of Spain. Accompanied by her husband, King Felipe VI, Letizia received the "2019 Observatory for Domestic and Gender Violence Award" in the "Outstanding Person" category for her commitment on fighting against domestic and gender violence and for her support for victims.

Confesso que este Prémio me apanhou de surpresa, porque desconhecia este trabalho da Rainha de Espanha. Passou-me completamente ao lado, ou então a minha memória está bem pior do que eu supunha. Este reconhecimento foi votado por unanimidade por todos os representantes das instituições que integram o Observatório e que, desta forma, quiseram reconhecer o compromisso da Rainha em nome da luta contra a violência doméstica e o apoio às vítimas.

I confess that this prize took me by surprise, because I was unaware of this kind of work of the Queen of Spain. I totally missed it or my memory is much worse than I supposed. This recognition was voted unanimously by all representatives of the institutions that make up the Observatory and thus wanted to recognize the Queen's commitment in the name of fighting domestic violence and supporting victims.

O Observatório contra a Violência Doméstica e de Género é uma instituição criada em 2002 cuja finalidade principal é abordar esta temática e o seu tratamento a partir da Administração da Justiça. Está integrado actualmente com vários órgãos institucionais tais como o Conselho Geral do Poder Judicial , o Ministério da Justiça, o Ministério da Saúde, Serviços Sociais e Igualdade, e o Ministério do Interior, entre outras entidades públicas. O Observatório contra a Violência Doméstica e de Género é um instrumento de análise e de actuação que, no âmbito da Administração da Justiça, promove iniciativas e medidas dirigidas a erradicar o problema social que é a violência doméstica e de género.

The Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence is an institution created in 2002 whose main purpose is to address this issue and its treatment from the Administration of Justice's point. It is currently integrated with various institutional bodies such as the General Council of the Judiciary, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, and the Ministry of Interior, among other public entities. The Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence is an instrument of analysis and action that, within the Administration of Justice, promotes initiatives and measures aimed at eradicating the social problem of domestic and gender violence.

Segundo a Casa Real,a Rainha sempre manifestou a sua preocupação contra as mulheres vítimas de maus-tratos, especialmente aquelas que se encontram em situação de maior vulnerabilidade: menores, mulheres adultas, mulheres com algum tipo de incapacidade e mulheres que vivem nos meios rurais.

According to the Royal House, the Queen has always voiced concern about abused women, especially those most vulnerable: under age, adult women, women with disabilities and women living in rural areas.

O envolvimento da Rainha de Espanha nesta temática permitiu também dar uma maior visibilidade ao problema da violência doméstica e de género e contribuir para consciencializar a sociedade para  necessidade de reunir os meios para a sua erradicação e para ajudar as vítimas. Até ao dia de ontem foram 52 as vítimas mortais de violência doméstica em Espanha. Mulheres que perderam a sua vida às mãos do seus companheiros ou ex-companheiros.

The involvement of the Queen of Spain in this area has also made the issue of domestic and gender violence more visible and has contributed to raising awareness in society about the need to gather the means for its eradication and to help the victims. Until yesterday there were 52 the deadliest victims of domestic violence in Spain. Women who lost their lives at the hands of their partners or former partners.

Letizia não foi a única galardoada na 15ª Edição destes Prémios. A Associação para a Prevenção, Reinserção e Assistência à Mulher Prostituta (Apramp) também levou um galardão  e a menção especial Soledad Cazorla foi concedida ao magistrado da Segunda Câmara do Supremo Tribunal Julián Sánchez Melgar e à procuradora da Violência contra a Mulher Andaluza, Flor de Torres, pela  sua contribuição "para a melhoria da protecção legal, assistência e ajuda" às vítimas, conforme observado pelo presidente do Observatório, Ángeles Carmona.

Letizia was not the only one awarded at the 15th Edition of these Awards. The Association for the Prevention, Reintegration and Assistance of Women Prostitutes (Apramp) also received an award, and special mention Soledad Cazorla was granted to the Second Chamber Magistrate of the Supreme Court Julián Sánchez Melgar and the Prosecutor for Violence against Andalusian Women, Flor de Torres for their contribution "to improving legal protection, help and assistance" to victims, as noted by the president of the Observatory, Ángeles Carmona.

Ao receber o galardão e no seu discurso de aceitação, descobri uma coisa sobre Letizia. Ela não gosta de estar no centro das atenções e arrisco a dizer que se sentiu bem desconfortável ao receber este prémio. Letizia parece ser uma mulher que leva o seu trabalho muito a sério, mas não gosta demasiado deste tipo de reconhecimento. Nas suas palavras, a consorte espanhola partilhou este prémio com várias entidades cujo trabalho ela considera vital na temática sobre a violência doméstica e de género e também com todos os anónimos que todos os dias prestam um trabalho silencioso mas precioso no apoio às vítimas:

Upon receiving the award and in her acceptance speech, I discovered something about Letizia. She doesn't like to be in the spotlight and I venture to say that she felt very uncomfortable receiving this award. Letizia seems to be a woman who takes her work very seriously, but doesn't like this kind of recognition too much. In her words, the Spanish consort shared this award with several entities whose work she considers vital regarding domestic and gender violence and also with all the anonymous people who do a quiet but precious job of supporting victims every day:

"Em resumo, o que eu gostaria de fazer é transferir essa distinção para todas as pessoas que, todos os dias, de maneira tranquila, difícil e com recursos limitados, ajudam, aconselham, curam, incentivam, assistem, escutam, confortam e consolam todos aqueles que sofrem violência doméstica e de género (...) Por todas essas pessoas anónimas, a nossa gratidão e a nossa admiração. E, é claro, uma memória permanente e respeitosa para todas as mulheres mortas por seus parceiros ou ex-parceiros, cinquenta e duas até agora, só este ano. O nosso pensamento também está com os menores, crianças, vítimas, às vezes mortais, muitas vezes órfãs, de uma violência que temos que continuar lutando e lidando com todas as ferramentas que nos permitem, por um lado, o Estado de Direito e, por outro, a educação."
"In short, what I would like to do is transfer this distinction to all the people who, every day, quietly, hard and with limited resources, help, advise, heal, encourage, assist, listen, and confort all those who suffer domestic and gender-based violence (...) For all these anonymous people, our gratitude and our admiration, and of course a permanent and respectful memory for all women killed by their partners or former partners, fifty-two so far, just this year. Our thinking is also with the children, victims, sometimes fatal, often orphans, of violence that we have to keep fighting and dealing with all the tools that allow us, on the one hand, the rule of law and, on the other hand, education. "

No passado dia 25 assinalou-se o Dia Internacional pela Eliminação da Violência contra as Mulheres. Um dia que começou a ser assinalado como um dia contra a violência baseada no género, em 1981, por activistas dos direitos das mulheres. Este ano, em Portugal já morreram 32 pessoas em contexto de violência doméstica, das quais 23 são mulheres, oito homens e uma criança.

Last 25th was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. A day that began to be marked as a day against gender-based violence in 1981 by women's rights activists. This year in Portugal 32 people have died so far in the context of domestic violence, of which 23 are women, eight men and one child.
