Leonor: o surgimento de uma futura Rainha / Leonor: the emergence of a future Queen

A História é feita de momentos inesquecíveis. Marcos que perduram na memória de quem os viveu e de quem assiste. O T&T deixou escapar alguns destes marcos no último mês. Vamos tentar remediar essa situação. Começamos em Espanha que assistiu, no meio do turbilhão político e social vivido na Catalunha, dois grandes momentos protagonizados por Leonor, Princesa das Astúrias e (espera-se) futura Rainha de (toda a ) Espanha.

History is made of unforgettable moments. Milestones that linger in the memory of those who lived and watch them. T&T missed some of these milestones in the last month. Let's try to fix this situation. We begin in Spain, which witnessed, in the midst of the political and social turmoil in Catalonia, two great moments played by Leonor, Princess of Asturias and (hopefully) future Queen of (all) Spain.

O Rei Felipe VI e a Rainha Letizia compareceram, como é hábito, juntamente com a Rainha Sofia, à entrega dos Prémios Princesa de Astúrias em Oviedo. Pela primeira vez o casal real fez-se acompanhar pelas suas duas filhas, a Princesa Leonor e a Infanta Sofia. À chegada ao Teatro Campoamor, a família posou para as fotografias, sendo notório o orgulho dos pais por trazer as suas duas filhas a este evento que homenageia pessoas ou colectivos de todo o mundo que se destacaram nas áreas das Artes, Comunicação e Humanidades, Cooperação Internacional, Desporto, Letras, Ciências Sociais, Investigação Científica e Tecnologia e Concórdia.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia attended, as usual, along with Queen Sofia, the delivery of the Princess of Asturias Awards in Oviedo. For the first time the royal couple was accompanied by their two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia. Upon arrival at the Campoamor Theater, the family posed for photographs, and it was quite visible the parents's pride and joy for bringing their two daughters to this event honoring people or groups from around the world who stood out in the areas of Arts, Communication and Humanities, Cooperation. International, Sport, Letters, Social Sciences, Scientific Research and Technology and Concordia.

O casal real e as suas duas filhas entraram no Teatro pelo corredor central, ocupando os seus lugares na mesa Presidencial no palco. A Rainha Sofia assistiu, como é hábito, ao evento na tribuna real. Vi a cerimónia em directo, como tento todos os anos assistir, porque adoro ouvir os discursos. Este ano, os discursos foram bastante emotivos começando pelo Presidente da Fundação Princesa de Astúrias.

De seguida os laureados de 2019 receberam os prémios e alguns deles discursaram. Podem ler mais sobre os vencedores deste ano aqui.

The royal couple and their two daughters entered the Theater down the center aisle, taking their seats at the Presidential table on stage. Queen Sofia attended, as usual, the event in the royal gallery. I saw the ceremony live, as I try to do every year, because I love listening to the speeches. This year the speeches were very emotional starting with the President of the Princess of Asturias Foundation.

Por fim, o momento mais aguardado. Leonor proferiu o seu primeiro grande discurso neste evento que tem o seu título. Confesso-vos que chorei. Não só porque foi um discurso maravilhosamente bem proferido para uma menina de 13 anos, como pela sua doçura, à vontade e tranquilidade enquanto falava, não só por ser um orgulho ver estes mini-royals a crescer, mas principalmente pelo olhar de orgulho dos seus pais, irmã e avós. Digam o que disserem, independentemente de todos os gostos pessoais e rumores que circulam por ai, olhamos para estes momentos e vemos Amor e União. Há coisas que não se conseguem disfarçar.

Finally, the most awaited moment. Leonor gave her first major speech at this event that bears her title. I confess to you that I cried. Not only because it was a wonderfully well-spoken speech for a 13-year-old girl, but for her sweetness, ease and tranquility while speaking, not only for being proud to see these mini-royals grow, but mainly for the proud look of their parents, sister and grandmothers. Say what you say, regardless of all the personal tastes and rumors out there, we look at these moments and see Love and Union. There are things that can't be disguised.

Neste mesmo dia, à mesma hora que Leonor discursava, violentas manifestações tomavam as ruas de Barcelona, devido à decisão do Tribunal Constitucional de condenar à prisão alguns intervenientes políticos envolvidos na tentativa de declarar a independência desta região autónoma de Espanha. Todo os seu discurso merece ser ouvido, mas quero deixar aqui um trecho que tendo em conta tudo o que estava a passar, dá que pensar:

On the same day, just as Leonor was speaking, violent demonstrations were taking to the streets of Barcelona, ​​due to the decision of the Constitutional Court to condemn some political actors involved in the attempt to declare the independence of this autonomous region of Spain. All of her speech deserves to be heard, but I want to leave here an excerpt that, considering all that was going on, was full of reflextion.

"O titulo de Princesa de Astúrias compromete-me com a entrega e esforço em servir a Espanha e todos os espanhóis. Em minha casa, as palavras Espanha e Astúrias sempre estão unidas com as mesma força que a História as uniu. Assim o sinto no meu coração."
"The Princess of Asturias's title commits me to the commitment and effort to serve Spain and all Spaniards. In my home, the words Spain and Asturias are always united with the same force that History united them.  And so I feel it in my heart."

Por fim, no encerramento dos Prémios, seguiu-se o discurso de Felipe VI, num dia muito especial que trouxe, certamente, muitas memórias do ano 1981, quando um jovem Príncipe das Astúrias proferiu o seu primeiro discurso também na Cerimónia de entrega destes prémios. Um dia que "levaria para sempre no mais profundo do seu coração." Foi um discurso de um Rei, mas também foi um discurso de um pai para uma filha.

Finally, at the close of the Awards, Felipe VI's speech followed, on a very special day that certainly brought many memories of the year 1981, when a young Prince of Asturias gave his first speech at this Awards ceremony. A day that he "would take forever in the bottom of my heart." It was a speech from a king, but it was also a speech from a father to a daughter.

"A tua obrigação em servir Espanha e os espanhóis deve ser o teu maior orgulho e a honra máxima que podes alcançar. O teu dever será actuar sempre com esperança, coragem e com valentia; crescendo em responsabilidade, bondade e exemplaridade. E hoje, quando pela primeira vez nos acompanhas neste acto, gostaria de terminar as minhas palavras, transmitindo-te a ti, e à tua irmã e a toda à vossa geração, uma mensagem de confiança. Essa confiança tão necessária que, cada ano, sentimos renascer neste Teatro graças aos nossos galardoados, ao seu grande exemplo, à sua extraordinária obra, à sua entrega às causas mais nobres, ao seu amor pela solidariedade e pela liberdade. Obrigado, por último, à sua nobreza de espírito que tanto desejo que se fortaleça a cada dia no teu coração."
"Your obligation to serve Spain and the Spaniards must be your greatest pride and the highest honor you can achieve. Your duty will always be to act with hope, courage and valour; growing in responsibility, kindness and exemplary. And today, when for the first time you are accompanying us in this act, I would like to end my words by giving you, and your sister and your whole generation, a message of confidence. This much-needed confidence that we feel reborn in this Theater every year thanks to our laureates, to their great example, to their extraordinary work, to htheir surrender to the noblest causes, to their love for solidarity and freedom. Finally, thanks for their nobility of spirit that I so much desire to be strengthened every day in your heart."

Foi muito bonito. Foi muito emotivo. Foi histórico. E é destes momentos que a felicidade de uma royal watcher é feita.

It was very beautiful. It was very emotional. It was historical. And it is from these moments that the happiness of a royal watcher is made.

No dia seguinte o Rei espanhol, a Rainha, a Princesa das Astúrias e a Infanta Sofia visitaram Asiegu onde entregaram o Prémio de Povoado Exemplar das Astúrias. Este prémio reconhece a dedicação e trabalho dos seus habitantes em manter as tradições, conservar e recuperar o património, proteger as suas riquezas naturais e ambientais, melhorar a sua qualidade de vida, bem como incentivar o retorno dos emigrantes e atrair turistas. Este é sempre aquele evento em que vemos Felipe e Letizia muito descontraídos e muito próximos dos populares.
The following day the spanish King, the Queen along the Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofia visited Asiegu where they presented the Exemplary Asturian Village Award. This award recognizes the dedication and hard work of its inhabitants in maintaining traditions, conserving and restoring heritage, protecting their natural and environmental wealth, improving their quality of life, as well as encouraging the return of migrants and attracting tourists. This is always that event where we see Felipe and Letizia very relaxed and very close to the crowd.

Este ano a entrega do Prémio do Povoado Exemplar das Astúrias trouxe mais um marco e mais um discurso para Leonor que mais uma vez reconheceu a presença importante das Astúrias e do povo asturiano para a sua família:

"Os nossos pais contaram-nos muitas vezes como este dia é especial, como é importante para eles compartilhar estes momentos. A minha irmã Sofia e eu adoramos viver hoje tantas emoções nesta terra que aprendemos desde sempre a amar. Os nossos pais sempre nos deram a conhecer, desde pequenas, vários lugares nas Astúrias; entre eles Covadonga e, ontem, Oviedo para a Cerimónia de entrega dos Prémios da Fundação Princesa das Astúrias, que é o título que ostento com orgulho. E também com alegria. Prémios com quase 40 anos de história que meus pais conhecem bem, principalmente meu pai, de forma muito pessoal. Cidades como Asiegu são um tesouro da Espanha que vocês precisam amar, cuidar e proteger. Acabaram de nos mostrar as queijarias, o lagar, as coisas bonitas deste lugar que mostram que nesta cidade há vida, há beleza e há futuro. O prémio que hoje recebem como uma cidade exemplar das Astúrias nasceu há quase 30 anos para defender valores muito importantes: respeito e conhecimento da natureza e do meio ambiente; o valor da comunidade, do trabalho conjunto, das tradições e também do progresso. Deixem-me parabenizá-los por isso. Estou ansiosa para ir imediatamente ao miradouro para ver o Urriellu e apreciar a natureza privilegiada que o rodeia. "Our parents have often told us how special this day is, how important it is for them to share these moments. My sister Sofia and I love to live so many emotions today on this place, that we have always learned to love. Our parents have always shown us, from an early age, several places in Asturias, including Covadonga and, yesterday, Oviedo for the Ceremony of the Princess of Asturias Foundation Awards, a title Im'm very proud of. These Awards have almost 40 years of history that my parents know very well, especially my father, very personally. Cities like Asiegu are a treasure of Spain that you need to love, care and protect. A cumplicidade entre pais e irmãs nesta visita foi mais uma vez notória. Sofia é uma entusiasta apoiante da irmã. Felipe e Letizia são uns pais orgulhosos. E fotografias como estas fazem-me sempre tão feliz.

Dias após completar o seu 14º aniversário, a Princesa das Astúrias (e Girona*) esteve em Barcelona acompanhada dos seus pais, o Rei Felipe VI e a Rainha Letizia e da sua irmã a Infanta Sofia para participar numa série de eventos que marcaram o 10º aniversário da Fundação Princesa de Girona , da qual é Presidente Honorária (embora ainda seja representada pelo seu pai).
Days after completing her 14th birthday, the Princess of Asturias (and Girona *) was in Barcelona with her parents, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia and her sister Infanta Sofia to participate in a series of events marking the 10th anniversary of the Princesa de Girona Foundation, of which she is Honorary President (although still represented by her father).

A família marcou presença na entrega de Prémios da Fundação Princesa de Girona que premeia anualmente a trajectória pessoal e profissional de jovens dos 16 aos 35 anos de idade que se destacaram pelo seu trabalho, mérito e exemplo.  Os prémios ambicionam ser uma forma de promover e fomentar a iniciativa e o esforço, a investigação científica e a criatividade artística, a solidariedade e o desenvolvimento do talento de jovens empreendedores e inovadores inconformados e focados em construir um mundo mais justo de uma forma globalizada e que têm a capacidade de assumir riscos e a motivação necessária para induzir mudanças na sociedade. The family was present at the Princesa de Girona Foundation Awards, which annually reward the personal and professional career of young people aged from 16 to 35 who stood out for their work, merit and example. The awards aim to be a way of promoting and fostering the initiative and effort, scientific research and artistic creativity, solidarity and talent development of young entrepreneurs and innovators who are uncomfortable and focused on building a fairer world in a globalized way and who have the ability to take risks and the motivation needed to induce change in society. A presença da família real espanhola numa Barcelona ferida e dividida foi vista por muitos como uma operação charme, mas a verdade é que o charme faz parte da arte de saber liderar. E Leonor deu uma verdadeira lição de maturidade ao discursar num catalão perfeito durante a cerimónia. Um discurso que mereceu uma ovação em pé por parte da audiência, perante o olhar embevecido de Felipe e Letizia.
The presence of the Spanish royal family in a wounded and divided Barcelona has been seen by many as a charm operation, but the truth is that charm is part of the art of leading. And Leonor gave a real lesson in maturity by speaking in perfect Catalan during the ceremony. A speech that deserved a standing ovation by the audience, before the proud eyes of Felipe and Letizia.

Claramente Felipe e Letizia preparam ao milímetro a educação das suas filhas, nomeadamente Leonor, para os seus papéis no seio da família real espanhola. Os discursos de Leonor foram aclamados pela imprensa espanhola e internacional pelo à-vontade e capacidades linguísticas da jovem princesa. A presença de Leonor e Sofia é cada vez mais regular em actos oficiais e 2019 foi definitivamente um marco na vida oficial da Princesa das Astúrias. Sem dúvida nenhuma uma das figuras reais que mais se destacou este ano.
Clearly Felipe and Letizia prepare for the millimeter the education of their daughters, namely Leonor, for their roles within the Spanish royal family. Leonor's speeches were acclaimed by the Spanish and international press for the ease and language skills of the young princess. The presence of Leonor and Sofia is increasingly regular in official acts and 2019 was definitely a milestone in the official life of the Princess of Asturias. Undoubtedly one of the most outstanding royal figures this year.

Prince of Girona is the official title of the presumptive heir to the Aragon Crown. The title originates from that of Duke of Girona created in 1351 by King Pedro IV of Aragon for the benefit of his presumptive heir. After the unification of the Crowns of Aragon, Navarre and Castile, the title was associated with those of Prince of Viana and Prince of Asturias.
