With more or less time something that always gives me joy and that I rarely let pass is a royal christening. Especially if it's in Sweden, where things seem a lot less complicated, and it's all done transparently and we can see it all, although understand what they say it's hard. However, the baptism of any child is always an unforgettable and very symbolic family occasion. If we are talking about a child born in the British Royal Family, being the first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a christening is also (one more) opportunity to use the expression "Break of tradition" for free.

Baptizado de Archie Harrison Mountbatten- Windsor / Christening of Archie Harrison Mountbatten- Windsor

The first child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, born May 6, was baptized two months later on July 6 in Windsor Castle Private Chapel. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of  Canterbury, Justin Welby. A few days earlier, a statement issued by Buckingham Palace revealed some details of the ceremony and launched the media revolt.

At the heart of the matter is "a small private ceremony" and "Godparents, in keeping of  their wish, will remain private." And with that, a media storm emerged, because obviously Harry and Meghan had to, at the very least, let the press photograph the arrival of the guests, just like what happened at the christening of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's children.  But why, should they? It turns out there were more royal christenings in the British royal house than the last three we have seen. Royal baptisms in the British royal family are almost always private ceremonies and by private ceremony is meant "without press coverage during the ceremony". An exception to this was Princess Eugenie of York's christening during a public service at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham in December 1990. Archie, at least for now, and as announced at birth, has no royal title. He will be some day a monarch's grandson and nephew for another, like Peter Philips and Zara Tindall, for example, but most likely he will not play an active role within the British royal family, a situation quite different from his cousins George, Charlotte and Louis of Cambridge. The fact that Harry and Meghan are working royals and have very specific duties of service and representation for the British monarchy does not mean that this extends to their son. At this point, they seem to be very clear about what they want for him, and surely if they are acting like they do, they have the full support of the Queen and Prince of Wales. And I really thing this is what people need do understand.

Regarding the Godparents have not been revealed, the thing may be more subjective. Honestly, in my opinion, the christening should have taken place without any previous statement. Some official photos released and that's it. To issue a public statement saying certain things will be kept anonymous seems to me to be inconsistent. And unnecessary. It seems that the godparents are private citizens and close friends of the couple, but regardless of the global interest in the Sussexes, I doubt when revealing their names if this would have any truly negative impact on their lives. Also, I find it very strange that this request came from the Godparents. Can you imagine someone being invited to be godfather or godmother of a royal family member and saying, "Okay, fine, but please don't make that public."?? So, looking at things very lightly, it seemed to me an exaggerated attitude. But ... I don't have all the data and the decision is ultimately always up to the parents. I think there is a strong arm fight with the press to show who is really in control of the situation. And although I understand, because the press has been terrible with Meghan, the truth is that there has to be a balance, which in my view Harry and Meghan are reaching, though in an unusual way for what the Windsor's usually do. And because of it, they are labeled as controversial. But that doesn't make them wrong.

Still regarding the Godparents, much has been said about why they bother to keep their names secret, if the baptism certificate with all its details is kept in the parish church records and can be requested by anyone willing to pay a small amount? But Archie was baptized in a Private Chapel, separate from St. George's Chapel, so the names of the godparents are anonymous. According to The Mirror, the Queen has previously held secret royal baptism certificates. However, no problem ever arose because the names of the godparents were always released.

In the group photograph we can see the family of three surrounded by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall on the left, Doria Ragland, Meghan's mother, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, sisters of the late Princess of Wales, in the center, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the right. The Queen was not present due to appointments at Sandrigham, and yes, it's quite normal for her not to attend all the christenings in the family. When it comes to the ladies'fashion choices, I must say that Doria was the best dressed. It's just not worth talking about anyone else. I also missed seeing G., Lottie and Louis in this photograph.

The original dress was last worn in 2004 in the baptism of Lady Louise Windsor and the replica was first worn in 2008 in the christening of her brother Viscount Severn.

Controversy aside, Archie is a beautiful baby, don't you think?
But yes, I still prefer a good Swedish royal christening!!
