No dia 21 de Julho a Família Real Belga saiu à rua para as celebrações da Festa Nacional que assinalam a subida ao trono do primeiro Rei dos Belgas, Leopoldo I em 1831 na sequência da independência do país em 1830. O dia 21 de Julho também marca o aniversário da entronização do Rei Philippe, na sequência da abdicação do seu pai, o Rei Albert II, em 2013.
On 21 July the Belgian Royal Family took the streets for National Party celebrations marking the rise to the throne of the first King of the Belgians, Leopold I in 1831 following the independence of the country in 1830. 21 July also marks the anniversary of King Philippe's enthronement following the abdication of his father, King Albert II, in 2013.

Este ano, aqui no T&T,  o Dia da Festa Nacional na Bélgica também fica conhecido como o Dia de "Olhem-me só para a Elisabeth!" Pois é meus queridos, é nestes momentos, em que a passagem do tempo se revela demasiado veloz e implacável para aquilo que o nosso coração de royal watcher consegue aguentar - voz embargada pelas lágrimas com uma música nostálgica pirosa ao fundo - que nos perguntamos "Como é que isto aconteceu? Ainda no outro dia ela usava fraldas, e agora já usa saltos anos, clutch e um vestido que eu usaria certamente." Onde é que vamos parar? O que vamos ver de seguida? Bem, se não for pedir demasiado, podemos ver uma tiara. Sim, acho que conseguimos viver com isso, certo pessoas? Mas, mais uma vez, não sei se o meu coração vai aguentar...
This year, here at T&T, Belgium National Day is also known as "Take-a-close-look-at-Elisabeth Day" Indeed my dears, it is at times like these, when the passage of time proves to be too fast and unforgiving for what our royal watcher's heart can handle - a voice choked with tears with a nostalgic corny music in the background - that we wonder: "How did that happen? Just the other day she was wearing diapers, and now she wears heels, clutch and a dress that I would certainly wear. " Where do we end up? What are we going to see next? Well, if it's not too much to ask, we can see a tiara. Yeah, I think we can live with that, right guys? But once again, I don't know if my heart can take the emotions on that day...

Elisabeth, Duquesa de Brabant vai fazer 18 anos em Outubro. Será a primeira desta geração que vi nascer a atingir a maioridade. Será que estamos mentalmente preparados para isso? Eu não!
Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant will turn 18 in October. She will be the first of this generation that I saw born to come of age. Are we mentally prepared for this? I'm not.



Bem, voltando às celebrações, na verdade tudo começou no dia anterior. De véspera o Rei Philippe fez o habitual discurso do Dia Nacional. Este ano foram divulgadas fotografias dos preparativos, onde podemos ver Elisabeth a acompanhar o seu pai. Claramente Philippe e Mathilde estão a introduzir a sua filha mais velha na agenda oficial e apesar do facto de Elisabeth ainda ter os estudos como prioridade, acho que é seguro dizer que iremos ver cada vez mais a futura Rainha da Bélgica (a primeira por direito próprio) em actos oficiais.
Well, back to the celebrations, actually all started the day before. On July 20 King Philippe gave the usual National Day speech. This year photos of the preparations were released, where we can see Elisabeth accompanying her father. Clearly Philippe and Mathilde are putting their eldest daughter on the official agenda and despite the fact that Elisabeth still has her studies as a priority, I think it is safe to say that we will increasingly see the future Queen of Belgium (the first in her own right) in official acts.

Também de véspera o Rei Philippe e a Rainha Mathilde, acompanhados pela Princesa Astrid e pelo Príncipe Lorenz compareceram ao Concerto da Festa Nacional, no Palácio de Belas-Artes em Bruxelas, onde actuou a Orquestra Nacional da Bélgica.
Also on the National Day's eve King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, accompanied by Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz attended the National Day Concert at the Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, where the Belgian National Orchestra performed.

No dia seguinte, os vários membros da família real belga compareceram a serviços religiosos Te Deum por ocasião da Festa Nacional. O Rei Philippe, a Rainha Mathilde e os seus quatro filhos, a Príncesa Elisabeth, o Príncipe Gabriel, o Príncipe Emmanuel e a Princesa Eléonore estiveram em Bruxelas, onde, após o serviço religioso conduzido na Catedrál de Saints Michel-et-Gudule, cumprimentaram as centenas de pessoas que normalmente esperam no exterior da Catedral para ver a família real.
The next day, the various members of the Belgian royal family attended Te Deum religious services on the occasion of the National Day. King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and their four children, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore were in Brussels, where, after their religious service at the Cathedral of Saints Michel-et-Gudule, they greeted the hundreds of people who usually wait outside the Cathedral to see the royal family.

Enquanto isso a Princesa Astrid e o Príncipe Lorenz estiveram em Namur e o Príncipe Laurent marcou presença no Te Deum realizado em Bruges.
Meanwhile Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz were in Namur and Prince Laurent attended the Te Deum held in Bruges.

Após o meio-dia a família real belga reuniu-se para assistir ao Desfile Militar. E foi aqui que se deu o momento mais caricato do dia. O irmão do Rei, o Príncipe Laurent, em mais uma das suas 1545549 atitudes pouco reais e controversas, não parou de mexer no seu smartphone, atendendo inclusive uma chamada durante o desfile das forças armadas, perante o olhar reprovador da sua esposa, a Princesa Claire, que claramente questionou o seu marido acerca do seu comportamento.
After noon the Belgian royal family gathered to watch the Military Parade. And it was here that the most akward moment of the day took place. The King's brother, Prince Laurent, in one of his 1545549 less royal and controversial attitudes, did not stop fiddling with his smartphone, even answering a call during the military parade before the disapproving gaze of his wife, Princess Claire, who clearly questioned her husband about his behavior.

Como senão bastasse, a sua atitude aparentemente não passou desapercebida na tribuna real, pois tanto o Rei Philippe como a Rainha Mathilde parecem estar a olhar em direcção a Laurent no momento em que ele atende uma chamada. No final do desfile e, enquanto os outros membros da família real cumprimentavam algumas pessoas, Laurent após um aperto de mão, parece ter ficado farto e abandona repentinamente o local.
As if it wasn't bad enough, his attitude apparently did not go unnoticed in the royal podium, as both King Philippe and Queen Mathilde seem to be looking towards Laurent as he answers the phone call. At the end of the parade, and while the other members of the royal family greeted a few people, Laurent, after shaking hands with one person, seemed to be fed up and suddenly left the venue.

No que toca a moda, os homens (e a Princesa Astrid, uma querida!) optaram por uniformes militares e usaram a Ordem de Leopold. A rainha Mathilde geralmente tem um dos seus melhores looks do ano neste evento e este ano não foi excepção. O vestido de renda tijolo com um vistoso chapéu estavam perfeitos na Rainha dos Belgas.
When it comes to fashion, men (and Princess Astrid, God bless her) ppted for military uniforms and wore the Order of Leopold. Queen Mathilde usually has one of her best looks of the year at this event and this year was no exception. The brick lace dress with a flashy hat looked perfect on the Belgian Queen.

Aos 17 anos não é fácil vestir bem. Principalmente na esfera pública, num acto formal. Não se é criança, mas também não se é adulta e um corpo em transformação é um desafio. Eu diria que Elisabeth (e quem a aconselha) acertaram neste look: simples, jovem, elegante, doce e vibrante.
It's not easy to dress well at 17. Especially in the public sphere, in a formal act. You are not a child, but you are not an adult either, and a changing body is a challenge. I'd say Elisabeth (and whoever advised her) got it right in this look: simple, young, elegant, sweet and vibrant.

No final do dia a família real belga reuniu-se para a tradicional Festa no Parque de Bruxelas.
At the end of the day the Belgian royal family gathered for the traditional Party at the Parc de Bruxelles.


As celebrações foram encerradas com um bonito fogo de artificio lançado do Palácio Real.
The celebrations were closed with a beautiful firework fired from the Royal Palace.
