The passage of time is a funny thing for anyone who follows this royal world. We watch engagements, weddings, births, baptisms and when we realize, that little baby born at the beginning of the 21st century is studying abroad and making her first humanitarian trip. I think the next big moment will be seeing her with a tiara for the first time and then, my friends, I'm going to cry ...
Elisabeth, Duquesa de Brabant está neste momento no Quénia numa missão humanitária acompanhada pela sua mãe, a Rainha Mathilde dos Belgas. A missão dura três duas e é organizada pela UNICEF Bélgica, da qual Mathilde é Presidente honorária, em colaboração com a UNICEF Quénia e a Embaixada da Bélgica em Nairobi.
Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant is currently in Kenya on a humanitarian mission accompanied by her mother, Queen Mathilde of the Belgians. The mission lasts three and is organized by UNICEF Belgium, of which Mathilde is Honorary President, in collaboration with UNICEF Kenya and the Belgian Embassy in Nairobi.

O objectivo desta visita é consciencializar o público em geral para a educação das crianças e para a situação das crianças mais vulneráveis. A Rainha e a sua filha mais velha irão visitar um campo de refugiados em Kakuma que abriga cerca de 180.000 refugiados. Com elas seguem alguns itens de primeiros socorros e material escolar.
The purpose of this visit is to raise awareness among the general public about the education of children and the situation of the most vulnerable children. The Queen and her eldest daughter will visit a refugee camp in Kakuma that shelters about 180,000 refugees. The mission provided some first aid items and school supplies.

Neste campo de refugiados Mathilde e Elisabeth visitaram o Centro Furaha que proporciona um ambiente seguro para crianças em risco, que lhes permite brincar e ter acesso a actividades infantis de forma segura.
In this refugee camp Mathilde and Elisabeth visited the Furaha Center which provides a safe environment for children at risk, allowing them to play and have access to children's activities safely.

Como Defensora dos Objectivos das Nações Unidas para um Desenvolvimento Sustentável, Mathilde deseja também chamar a atenção para a importância da implementação destes objectivos através do fortalecimento das acções locais da UNICEF em conjunto com os esforços das autoridades locais no que diz respeito aos direitos das crianças e das mulheres, bem como o papel activo dos jovens, como agentes de mudança.
In her role as Special Advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Mathilde also wishes to draw attention to the importance of implementing these goals by strengthening UNICEF local action together with local authorities' efforts on children's rights and women, as well as the active role of young people as agents of change.

Sabe-se que a Rainha e o Rei belgas sempre educaram os seus quatro filhos de forma a que eles crescessem com a consciência e conhecimento sobre outras realidades, nomeadamente dos mais desfavorecidos e que aprendessem através da memória colectiva. Mathilde cresceu numa família onde a caridade, generosidade e sentido de "dar", estiveram sempre muito presentes. Uma educação que influenciou as suas acções de voluntariado durante a juventude e que, mais tarde, seria reflectida nas causas que apoiou, primeiramente como Princesa da Bélgica, e hoje em dia, enquanto Rainha.
It is known that the Belgian Queen and King have always educated their four children so that they grow with awareness and knowledge of other realities, especially the most disadvantaged, and that they learn through collective memory. Mathilde grew up in a family where charity, generosity and a sense of "giving" were always very present. An education that influenced her voluntary actions during her youth and which would later be reflected in the causes she supported, first as Princess of Belgium, and nowadays, as Queen.
