O tempo passou a correr na Bélgica, na Dinamarca e em mim / Time passed in Belgium, Denmark and me

O tempo é uma coisa fantástica e parte do meu fascínio pela realeza e pela História das casas reais está invariavelmente ligada ao tempo. Podemos medir vários marcos importantes da nossa própria vida pelos acontecimentos sucedidos em algumas casas reais. E duas coisas que me marcaram neste Verão 2018 estão ligadas a isso mesmo.

Time is an extraordinary thing and part of my fascination with royalty and the History of royal houses is invariably tied to time. We can measure several important milestones of our own life by several events regarding royals. And two things that impressed me this summer 2018 are bound to that.

Não me lembro propriamente do nascimento da Princesa Elisabeth da Bélgica, actual Duquesa de Brabant. Sei que estávamos em 2001 e o mundo ainda vivia o rescaldo do onze de Setembro. Eu estava no último ano do ensino secundário naquele que seria um ano de decisão para o meu futuro académico. Na última Festa Nacional da Bélgica, vi Elisabeth e o tempo parou: a Princesa vai fazer 17 anos em Outubro. A mesma idade que eu tinha quando ela nasceu. Tal como eu há 17 anos atrás, também ela vai começar um ano importante do seu percurso académico - onde irá estudar em Gales.

E apesar de não ter acompanhado com atenção os seus primeiros anos, é inegável o orgulho que sinto ao olhar para esta linda jovem mulher. O seu crescimento, é parte do meu.

I do not really remember the birth of Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, the current Duchess of Brabant. I know we were in 2001 and the world was still trying to understand what would happen after the September 11th. I was my senior year of high school in what would be a year of decision for my academic future. At the last National Day in Belgium, I saw Elisabeth and time stopped: the Princess will turn 17 in October. The same age I had when she was born. Like me 17 years ago, she also will start an important year of her academic career - where she will study in Wales. And although I did not closely follow her early years, the pride I feel looking at this gorgeous young woman is undeniable. Your growth is part of mine.

Em 2002 nascia Félix da Dinamarca, segundo filho do Príncipe Joachim e da sua primeira esposa, a Princesa Alexandra, agora Condessa de Frederiksborg. Lembro-me de ler em revistas que ele tinha nascido e lembro-me de seguir os primeiros anos deste príncipe louro de olhos azuis. Ao mesmo tempo tinha o meu primeiro namorado e começava a escolha para cursos e faculdade. Quando em Julho novas fotografias foram divulgadas por ocasião do seu 16º aniversário eu pensei no tempo. Em como ele passa rápido. Em como ele é generoso. Em como tudo cura. E como em 16 anos a nossa vida pode ser completamente diferente dos nossos sonhos de adolescente. Félix, tal como o irmão, está a transformar-se num verdadeiro quebra-corações. Sorriso aberto e verdadeiro, parece-me ser uma alma gentil e iluminada. E é óptimo poder seguir o seu crescimento.
In 2002 Felix was born in Denmark, the second son of Prince Joachim and his first wife, Princess Alexandra, now Countess of Frederiksborg. I remember reading in magazines he had been born and I remember following the early years of this blue-eyed blonde prince. At the same time I had my first boyfriend and started the choice for courses and college. When in last July new photographs were released on the occasion of his 16th birthday I thought about time. On how fast it passes. On how generous it is. In how it cures everything. And as in 16 years our life may be completely different from our teenage dreams. Felix, like his brother, is turning into a true heartbreaker. Open and true smile, it seems to me he is a gentle and enlightened soul. And it's great to be able to track his growth.
