Trooping the Colour 2018

No passado Sábado teve lugar a Parada de Aniversário da Rainha. Elizabeth II fez 92 anos em Abril, mas a comemoração oficial do aniversário do monarca em funções tem lugar em Junho, quando a probabilidade de bom tempo é maior. Durante o seu reinado, a Rainha Elizabeth II compareceu sempre a esta Parada com excepção de 1955 quando uma greve geral cancelou as celebrações. Em 1947 a então Princesa Elizabeth participou no evento, pela primeira vez, a acompanhar o seu pai, o Rei George VI, a cavalo.

Last Saturday, the Queen's Birthday Parade took place. Elizabeth II turned 92 in April, but the official commemoration of the monarch's birthday takes place in June, when the probability of good weather is greater. During her reign, Queen Elizabeth II always attended this Parade with the exception of 1955 when a general strike canceled the celebrations. In 1947, the then Princess Elizabeth took part in the event for the first time to accompany her father, King George VI, on horseback

Neste dia a Rainha, acompanhada por várias membros da Família Real, toma parte nesta grande celebração que se estende pelo Palácio de Buckingham, The Mall e recinto da Horseguards e que inclui a habitual aparição pública na varanda do Palácio de Buckingham. Esta Parada é conhecida vulgarmente por Trooping the Colour e todos os anos eu tenho que me relembrar como é que isto realmente funciona. Segundo o site da Casa Real Britânica:

On this day the Queen, accompanied by several members of the Royal Family, takes part in this great celebration which takes place from Buckingham Palace, The Mall and Horse Guards Parade and which includes the usual public appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. This Parade is commonly known by Trooping the Color and every year I have to remind myself how this really works. According to the British Royal House website:

"Trooping of the Color marca o aniversário oficial do soberano britânico há mais de 260 anos. Mais de 1400 soldados desfilam, 200 cavalos e 400 músicos reúnem-se em Junho para uma grande demonstração de precisão militar, equitação e fanfarra para marcar o aniversário oficial da Rainha. As ruas estão cheias de multidões agitando bandeiras enquanto o desfile segue desde o Palácio de Buckingham, passando pelo The Mall até ao recinto da Horse Guards, incluindo membros da família real a cavalo e em carruagens. A celebração finaliza com uma demonstração áera da Royal Air Force, vista  por membros da família real da varanda do Palácio de Buckingham." 

"The Trooping of the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for over 260 years. Over 1400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together each June in a great display of military precision, horsemanship and fanfare to mark The Queen's official birthday.The streets are lined with crowds waving flags as the parade moves from Buckingham Palace and down The Mall to Horse Guard's Parade, alongside Members of the Royal Family on horseback and in carriages.The display closes with an RAF fly-past, watched by Members of the Royal Family from Buckingham Palace balcony."

Á saída do Palácio de Buckingham, na primeira carruagem seguiam a Duquesa da Cornualha e a Duquesa de Cambridge.  Ambas no seu próprio estilo. Ambas lindas em azul-pálido. Camilla mantém sempre a sua elegância clássica. Catherine usou um vestido de linhas direitas, bastante simples mas que foi um sucesso. O penteado e o chapéu eram simplesmente maravilhosos.

On the way out of Buckingham Palace, in the first carriage followed the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duchess of Cambridge. Both in their own style. Both beautiful in pale blue. Camilla always maintains her classic elegance. Catherine wore a straight-line dress, quite simple but a success. The hairstyle and hat were simply wonderful.

Na segunda carruagem seguiram o Duque e a Duquesa de Sussex, acompanhados pelo Duque de Kent. Meghan fez o seu début no Trooping the Colour e escolheu um modelo rosa pálido que amei! Geralmente não sou fã de cabelos soltos com chapéu, mas desta vez resultou muito bem. O cabelo da nova Duquesa estava com forma e estrutura e isso foi vital.  E nem vale a pena chamarem a polícia-dos-ombros-à-mostra, porque só existe "quebra de protocolo" na cabeça de pessoas que acham que sabem tudo.

In the second carriage followed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, accompanied by the Duke of Kent. Meghan made her début in Trooping the Color and chose a pale pink model that I loved! Generally I'm not a fan of loose hair with a hat, but this time it turned out very well. The new Duchess's hair was well done and it had structure, and that was vital. And it's not even worth calling the police-of-show-off- shoulders,  because there is only a "breach of protocol" in the minds of people who think they know everything.

Na terceira carruagem e, depois de uma palete de cores muito pastel, veio a explosão de cor. A Princesa Beatrice usou um vestido rosa claro que combinou com um chapéu fuscia que ficou simplesmente perfeito. Eugenie de York escolheu um vestido verde vibrante que completou com elegante chapéu com detalhes de folhas verdes. Sophie, Condessa de Wessex usou um vestido rosa velho que combinou com um chapéu rosa pálido que, na minha opinião, não foi a melhor escolha para o vestido. A sua filha, Lady Louise, estava super crescida e bonita em azul-escuro. Uma verdadeira boneca!

In the third carriage, and after a pallet of very pastel colors came a wonderful color's  explosion. Princess Beatrice wore a light pink dress that matched a fuscia hat that was simply perfect. Eugenie of York chose a vibrant green dress that completed with elegant hat with green leafy details. Sophie, Countess of Wessex wore an old pink dress that matched with a pale pink hat that, in my opinion, was not the best choice for the dress. Her daughter, Lady Louise, looking super-grown up and beautiful in deep blue. A real doll!

Na última carruagem, a Rainha Elizabeth II seguiu sozinha em azul-celeste. Vibrante, régia, do alto dos seus 92 anos de vida e 66 de Reinado. Um exemplo de vida que merece ser celebrado. O Duque de Edimburgo que completou no passado domingo 97 anos, esteve ausente destas celebrações. Philip retirou-se o ano passado da vida pública e apenas comparece a alguns eventos, à sua escolha, ao longo do ano.

In the last carriage, Queen Elizabeth II went alone in blue. Vibrant, regal, from the top of her 92 years of life and 66 of reign. An example of life that deserves to be celebrated. The Duke of Edinburgh, who completed 97 years on Sunday, was absent from these celebrations. Philip retired last year from public life and only attendes a few events of his choice throughout the year.

Atrás da Rainha 4 membros da Família Real seguiam a cavalo - os quatro Coronéis Reais. Charles, Príncipe de Gales e Coronel dos Welsh Guards, William, Duque de Cambridge e Coronel dos Guardas Irlandeses, a Princesa Real e Coronel dos Blues e Royals e Andrew, Duque de York, que compareceu pela primeira vez a este evento a cavalo na qualidade de Coronel dos Grenadier Guards, sucedendo ao seu pai nesta posição.

Behind the Queen 4 members of the Royal Family were on horseback - the four Royal Colonels. Charles, Prince of Wales and Colonel of the Welsh Guards, William, Duke of Cambridge and Colonel of the Irish Guards, the Princess Royal and Colonel of the Blues and Royals and Andrew, Duke of York, who first attended this event on horseback as Coronel dos Grenadier Guards, succeeding his father in this position.

"Assim que a Rainha chega à Horse Guard's Parade em Whitehall, é saudada por uma saudação real e realiza uma inspecção das tropas, que são soldados totalmente treinados e operacionais usando o uniforme cerimonial com túnicas vermelhas e chapéus de pele de urso.
Depois que as bandas militares se apresentaram, a cor regimental, ou bandeira, escoltada é desfilada pelas fileiras de soldados. Mais de cem palavras de comando são usadas pelo Oficial em Comando da Parada para dirigir as várias centenas de soldados. 

"Once The Queen has arrived at Horse Guard's Parade in Whitehall, she is greeted by a Royal salute and carries out an inspection of the troops, who are fully trained and operational soldiers wearing the ceremonial uniform of red tunics and bearskin hats.
After the military bands have performed, the escorted Regimental Colour, or flag, is processed down the ranks of soldiers. Over one hundred words of command are used by the Officer in Command of the Parade to direct the several hundred soldiers."

Todos os anos uma das unidades militares é escolhida para desfilar a sua bandeira durante a Parada perante a Família Real e cerca de 7.500 espectadores. Este ano a honra foi concedida aos Coldstream Guards.

Each year one of the military units is chosen to troop its flag during the Parade before the Royal Family and about 7,500 spectators. This year the honor was granted to the Coldstream Guards.

"As bandeiras regimentais do Exército Britânico foram historicamente descritas como 'Cores' porque exibiam as cores do uniforme e insígnias usadas pelos soldados de diferentes unidades. O nome 'Cor' continua a ser usado até hoje. O principal objectivo das cores de um regimento era fornecer um ponto de referência no campo de batalha, o que era importante porque, sem as comunicações modernas, era muito fácil para as tropas ficarem desorientadas e separadas de suas unidades durante o conflito.
Se as tropas soubessem quais eram as cores de seus regimentos, era necessário exibi-las regularmente. A forma que encontraram para que isso acontecesse foi colocar jovens oficiais a marchar (trooping), entre as fileiras de tropas em formação, exibindo as cores do regimento bem alto. Esta é a origem da palavra "Trooping the Colour". Então, o que hoje é uma grande tradição começou como um desfile vital e prático projectado para auxiliar o reconhecimento da unidade antes de uma batalha começar.
Os Guardas estão entre os regimentos mais antigos do Exército Britânico e serviram como guarda-costas pessoais do soberano desde que a monarquia foi restaurada após a Guerra Civil Inglesa em 1660. "Regimental flags of the British Army were historically described as ‘Colours’ because they displayed the uniform Colours and insignia worn by the soldiers of different units. The name ‘Colour’ continues to be used to this day. The principal role of a regiment’s Colours was to provide a rallying point on the battlefield. This was important because, without modern communications, it was all too easy for troops to become disoriented and separated from their unit during conflict.
If Troops were to know what their Regiment’s Colours looked like, it was necessary to display them regularly. The way in which this was done was for young officers to march in between the ranks of troops formed up in lines with the Colours held high. This is the origin of the word ‘trooping’. So, what today is a great tradition began life as a vital and practical parade designed to aid unit recognition before a battle commenced.
The Guards are amongst the oldest regiments of the British Army and have served as the personal bodyguards of The Sovereign since the monarchy was restored after the English Civil War in 1660. The ceremony of Trooping the Colour is believed to have been performed first during the reign of King Charles II (1660 – 1685). In 1748, it was decided that this parade would be used to mark the official birthday of the Sovereign and it became an annual event after George III became King in 1760."

Após a Parada, as carruagens transportando os membros da família real fazem o percurso de volta até ao Palácio de Buckingham. A soberana é a última a chegar, sendo saudada pela família real à varanda com acenos e vénias.

After the Parade, the carriages carrying members of the royal family make their way back to Buckingham Palace. The queen is the last to come, being greeted by the royal family on the balcony with bows and curtesies.

Após alguns minutos de espera, a Família Real volta a aparecer à varada para assistir ao desfile áereo e saudar os milhares de pessoas que aguardam em frente do Palácio real para saudar a família.

É a única vez no ano em que temos a oportunidade de ver a extensa família real britânica junta.

After a few minutes of waiting, the Royal Family returns to the balcony to watch the Flypast and greet the thousands of people waiting in front of the Royal Palace to greet the family.

It is the only time in the year that we have the opportunity to see the extensive British royal family together.

Este ano foi especial não só por se tratar do primeiro Trooping the Colour da Duquesa de Sussex, mas principalmente pelos vários momentos hilariantes que assistimos na varada do palácio, protagonizados pelos membros mais novos da família: George e Charlotte, filhos do Duque e Duquesa de Cambridge, e por Savannah e Isla Philips, filhos de Peter e Autumn Philips.

This year was a special one not only because it was the first Trooping the Colour for the Duchess of Sussex, but mainly because of the several hilarious moments we witnessed on the palace balcony, featuring the younger members of the family: George and Charlotte of Cambridge, children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Savannah and Isla Philips, children Peter and Autumn Philips.
