Actualmente tenho estado rodeada por jovens e crianças. E alegro-me por saber que para muitos deles a leitura faz parte das suas vidas. Mas, por outro lado, vejo crianças e jovens que privilegiam outro tipo de passa-tempos em detrimento de um livro. E está tudo bem, porque nem todos temos que gostar das mesmas coisas, mas vejo diariamente o que a falta do hábito da leitura trás para uma criança e jovem em idade escolar, tanto a nível de vocabulário como de interpretação e até de imaginação.

At the moment I have been surrounded by young people and children. And I am glad to know that for many of them reading is part of their lives. But, on the other hand, I see children and young people who prefer another type of hobby at the expense of a book. And it's okay, because not everyone has to like the same things, but I see daily what the lack of reading habit brings back to a school-age child and teenager both in terms of vocabulary and interpretation and even imagination.

Na semana passada uma das mais ávidas defensoras da Literacia recebeu um título honorifico pela Universidade de Chester, precisamente pelo seu compromisso na promoção da Literacia. Camilla, Duquesa de Cornualha compareceu a uma cerimónia na histórica Catedral de Chaster onde recebeu o Doutoramento em Letras perante 500 estudantes das mais diversas faculdades da academia que também se estavam a graduar neste dia.

Last week one of the most eager defenders of Literacy received an honorary degree from Chester University, precisely because of her commitment to promoting Literacy. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall attended a ceremony in the historic Cathedral of Chaster where she received her Doctorate in Letters before 500 students of the most diverse faculties of the academy who were also graduating this day.

Camilla, que também é Condessa de Chester, é uma grande promotora da literacia no Reino Unido. A esposa do Príncipe de Gales encoraja, com várias iniciativas e através de várias organizações, das quais é patrona, o amor pela leitura desde a mais tenra idade. Ela própria como ávida leitora, tem levado a cabo, desde os primeiros anos como membro da família real, vários compromissos com o objectivo de promover a importância de apoiar a literacia e, desta forma, estimular o universo imaginativo e criativo das nossas crianças e jovens através da leitura e escrita.

Camilla, who is also Countess of Chester, is a major promoter of literacy in the UK. The wife of the Prince of Wales encourages, with several initiatives and through various organizations, of which she is patron, the love of reading from an early age. She herself, as an avid reader, has undertaken, from the earliest years as a member of the royal family, several engagements aimed at promoting the importance of supporting literacy and thus stimulating the imaginative and creative universe of our children and young people through reading and writing.

É uma das causas que eu mais admiro em Camilla. Ler para mim foi desde cedo uma grande paixão. Acredito que foi, em parte, esse amor que me fez alargar horizontes para a escrita. Foi o amor pela leitura, pelas histórias, pela História, que me fez criar desde cedo uma relação de admiração com a Realeza. 

Ler para mim foi sempre uma viagem. Uma viagem onde a imaginação é o limite. Hoje sou fruto de todas as minhas experiências, sim, mas também de todos os livros que li!

It's one of the causes I most admire in Camilla. Reading from me was a great passion from the beginning. I believe it was, in part, this love that made me broaden horizons for writing. It was the love for reading, for stories, for History, that made me create a relationship of admiration with the Royalty from an early age.

Reading to me was always a trip. A journey where imagination is the limit. Today I am the fruit of all my experiences, yes, but also of all the books I read!
