Algumas horas depois do anúncio oficial do noivado entre o Príncipe Harry de Gales e a actriz e activista humanitária norte-americana Meghan Markle, o casal apareceu para uma curta sessão fotográfica no Jardim Sunken no Palácio de Kensignton, onde os esperavam dezenas de jornalistas.

A few hours after the official announcement of the engagement between Prince Harry of Wales and American actress and humanitarian activist Meghan Markle, the couple appeared for a short photo shoot in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace, where dozens of journalists were waiting for them.

Visivelmente nervosos Harry e Meghan caminharam sempre de mãos dadas num cenário que eu achei simplesmente maravilhoso. É conhecida a paixão de Meghan por flores e achei que este jardim, num dia frio de Outono, foi o cenário perfeito para o amor e calor que existe entre os dois saltar à vista.

Além disso eles estavam "em casa" o que tornou tudo muito acolhedor, apesar de muito curto. O casal posou sensivelmente durante dois minutos e respondeu a breves perguntas.

Visibly nervous Harry and Meghan walked hand in hand in a scenario that I found simply wonderful. Meghan's passion for flowers is well-known, and I found this garden on a cold autumn day to be the perfect setting for the love and warmth that exists between the two of them.

In addition they were "at home" which made everything very cozy, although very short. The couple posed sensibly for two minutes and answered brief questions.

Em relação a como se sentem, Harry respondeu: " Entusiasmados. E muito satisfeito por ter parado de chover.". Meghan disse que estava muito feliz. Os jornalistas perguntaram como tinha sido o pedido e Harry disse: "Isso virá depois." Os jornalistas perguntaram se tinha sido romântico e o Harry disse: "Claro que foi!", e a Meghan respondeu "Muito!".

Asked about how they feel, Harry replied, "Thrilled, and very glad that it stopped raining." Meghan said she was very happy. The reporters asked about the proposal and Harry said, "That will come later." The reporters asked if it had been romantic and Harry said, "Of course it was!" And Meghan replied "Very!"

Na última questão, Harry foi questionado em como soube que Meghan era "a tal". O embevecido príncipe disse que soube logo na primeira vez que se conheceram. Awww....

In the last question, Harry was asked how he knew Meghan was "the one". The embittered prince said he knew the first time they met. Awww ....

Durante a sessão podemos ver o anel de noivado. O Palácio de Kensignton revelou alguns detalhes sobre a peça desenhada em exclusivo pelo Príncipe Harry para Meghan e elaborada pelos joalheiros da corte Cleave and Company. A peça em ouro amarelo (o favorito de Meghan) tem três diamantes. Um maior central proveniente do Botswana (aparentemente com um significado muito especial para o casal) e dois mais pequenos provenientes da colecção de jóias da Princesa Diana, mãe de Harry. 

Fiquei imensamente feliz por ser um anel com pedras neutras que inclui simbolismo, homenagem, família, mas também que tem uma personalidade muito própria. É um anel clássico, mas cheio de personalidade na minha opinião. Bem jogado Harry!

During the session we had the first glimpse on the engagement ring. Kensington Palace revealed some details about the piece designed exclusively by Prince Harry for Meghan and crafted by Cleave and Company jewelers. The yellow gold piece (Meghan's favorite) has three diamonds. A larger central diamond fromBotswana (apparently with a very special meaning for the couple) and two smaller ones coming from the private jewelry collection of Princess Diana, Harry's mother.

I was immensely happy with a ring with neutral stones that includes symbolism, tribute, family, but also that has a very own personality. It's a classic ring, but full of personality in my opinion. Well played Harry!

O casal saiu de seguida sem deixar de posar e acenar para todos, sempre mantendo o contacto físico. Adorei que Meghan tivesse agradecido a todos os presentes ao despedir-se.

Os dois estavam visivelmente nervosos, mas completamente extasiados e apaixonados por poderem assumir perante o mundo o amor que sentem um pelo outro. Harry mostrou-nos um olhar que nunca tínhamos visto antes e Meghan, era a imagem de uma mulher que é amada, protegida, e acarinhada pelo homem que ama.

The couple left immediately while still posing and waving to everyone, always maintaining the physical contact. I loved that Meghan had thanked everyone present for saying goodbye.

They were both visibly nervous, but completely ecstatic and passionate about being able to show their love for each other before the world. Harry showed us a look we had never seen before and Meghan was the image of a woman who is loved, protected, and cherished by the man she loves.

Sabem qual foi a minha reacção ao ver estas fotos com mais calma? Abraçar o meu marido com força. Dizer-lhe o quanto o amo, o quanto sou orgulhosa dele e o quanto acredito que somos um casal especial. Porquê? Porque o amor é inspirador. Realeza ou não, quando reconhecemos empatia, respeito, amor, cumplicidade num casal, ficamos inspirados a amar também. E quando temos a benção de amar e sermos amados, o mundo é cheio de arco-íris e habitado por unicórnios que nada nem ninguém consegue abalar! Mas até criar um mundo mágico dá trabalho e todas as histórias de encantar têm os seus monstros maus...

Do you know what was my reaction after seeing these photos more calmly later the day? Embrace my husband tightly. Tell him how much I love him, how proud I am of him and how much I believe we are a special couple. Why? Because love is inspiring. Royalty or not, when we recognize empathy, respect, love, complicity in a couple, we are inspired to love as well. And when we have the blessing of loving and being loved, the world is full of rainbows and inhabited by unicorns that nothing and nobody can shake away! But even creating a magical world gives work and all the enchanting stories have their evil monsters ...

No caso de Meghan e Harry, os monstros foram mesmo os sapatos de Meghan. Gostaram da mudança subtil de assunto? Ora bem, imaginei Meghan com um vestido verde ou branco para a sessão de noivado. As duas cores estavam lá, embora não exactamente como tinha pensado. Este look não vai ver inesquecível, mas talvez não tenha de ser. Mas o que vai ficar sempre na memória foram estes sapatos que considerei completamente desenquadrados do conjunto. Adorei o fato do Harry!

In Meghan and Harry's case, the monsters were really Meghan's shoes. Did you like the subtle change of subject? Okay, I pictured Meghan in a green or white dress for the engagement session. The two colors were there, though not exactly as I'd thought. This look won't be unforgetable, but it may not have to be. But what will always remain in the memory were these shoes that I considered completely out of step with the set. Loved Harry's suit!

Mas sabem que mais? Não interessa. Não gostei do look, mas amei a aura que rodeia estes dois!

But you know what? Does not matter. I did not like the look, but I loved the aura that surrounds these two!

Mais tarde foi transmitida uma entrevista de noivado com o casal, à semelhança do que aconteceu com o Príncipe William e Catherine Middleton em 2010.  Esta entrevista que decorreu no Palácio de Kensington ajudou a desmistificar muitos dos rumores que rodeavam a história deste casal e revelou alguns dados interessantes sobre a forma como Harry e Meghan lidaram com uma relação à distância durante 1 ano e meio.
Irei apenas abordar algumas das questões que me parecem mais interessantes em partilhar:

An engagement interview with the couple was later broadcast, as was the case with Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2010. This interview at Kensington Palace helped to demystify many of the rumors surrounding the couple's history and revealed some interesting facts about how Harry and Meghan dealt with a distance relationship for a year and a half.

I will only address some of the issues that I find most interesting in sharing:

O pedido / The Proposal

O pedido foi feito este mês, em casa, durante uma típica noite a dois, depois de assarem um frango. Harry ajoelhou-se e aparentemente Meghan quase que não o deixou acabar de falar. Segundo Meghan, foi muito romântico, natural e doce.

The proposal was made aerlier this month, at home, during a regular cosy night as a couple, after roasting a chicken. Harry knelt down and apparently Meghan almost did not let him finish the question. According to Meghan, it was very romantic, natural and sweet.

Como se conheceram? / How did they met?

Conheceram-se em Londres através de uma amiga em comum, que não revelaram o nome. A primeira vez que estiveram juntos foi em Julho de 2016 num encontro arranjado por essa amiga que achou que eles ficavam bem juntos. Após o primeiro encontro, estiveram juntos num segundo encontro porque encontraram muitas coisas para falar e queriam explorar mais o que estavam a acontecer. Algumas semanas depois, Harry viajou para África para um trabalho de conservação e conseguiu convencer a Meghan a juntar-se a ele no Botswana durante 5 dias, onde acamparam sobre as estrelas e se conheceram melhor. (Acredito que vem daqui o significado de um diamante do Botswana do anel de noivado.)

They met in London through a mutual friend, who will remain anonymous. The first time they were together was in July 2016 at a blind date arranged by this friend who thought they were perfect together. After the first date, they were together for a second  time because they found many things to talk about and wanted to explore more of what was happening. A few weeks later, Harry traveled to Africa for conservation work and managed to persuade Meghan to join him in Botswana for 5 days, where they camped over the stars and got to know each other better. (I believe that here comes the meaning of a Botswana diamond from the engagement ring.)

O conhecimento prévio que tinham um sobre o outro / The prior knowledge they had about each other.

Meghan disse que não sabia muitas coisas a respeito do Harry e embora tivesse consciente do interesse global na família real, não sabia muito. Tudo o que ficou a saber e a conhecer  sobre ele e sobre a sua família foi através do próprio Harry, o que tornou tudo muito mais natural e fácil. Harry confessou que nunca tinha ouvido falar de Meghan antes. E quando a viu pela primeira vez, soube imediatamente que tinha que dar o seu melhor para a cativar e ficou muito surpreendido com ela.

Meghan said she did not know much about Harry and although she was aware of the overall interest in the royal family, she did not know much. All she knows and found out about him and his family was through Harry himself, which made everything much more natural and easy. Harry confessed that he had never heard of Meghan before. And when he first saw her, he knew immediately that he had to do his best to captivate her and was very surprised by her.

Uma relação à distância / A long distance relationship

Segundo ambos foi uma escolha. Desde cedo se aperceberam que queriam comprometer -se um com o outro e então estiveram dispostos a investir todo o tempo e energia para que resultasse. Muitas viagens, aliadas a horários de trabalho e compromissos oficiais de ambos, em diferentes fusos horários, mas que encararam como um desafio para estarem juntos sempre que possível. Segundo o casal nunca estiveram mais de duas semanas separados.

According to both it was a choice. From an early age they realized that they wanted to compromise with each other and then they were willing to invest all the time and energy to make it work. Many trips, allied to working hours and official commitments of both, in different time zones, but which they considered as a challenge to be together whenever possible. According to the couple, they have never been separated for more than two weeks.

Como Meghan lidou com a exposição pública da relação e todo o escrutínio / How Meghan dealt with the public exposure of the relationship and all the scrutiny.

Durante 5-6 meses os dois conseguiram manter a relação privada. Quando tudo se tornou publico nenhum dos dois estava plenamente preparado para tudo o que aconteceu. Embora ambos fossem figuras públicas a surpresa foi grande. Meghan disse que, apesar da sua profissão, sempre levou uma vida relativamente simples e calma e não tinha como compreender ou antever tudo o que aconteceu. Sobre tudo o que foi erradamente escrito ou falado, Meghan disse que simplesmente decidiu não ler nada. Nem o bom, nem o mau. Ambos decidiram focar-se naquilo que consideravam importante: eles mesmos! Sobre o preconceito racial do qual foi alvo, Meghan confessa que é triste pensar que esse pormenor é foco de tanta atenção, Mas que o que importa é que ela se sente verdadeiramente orgulhosa de onde vem e da pessoa que é, e que foi muito importante alhear-se de todo esse ruído e focar-se na construção da sua relação com Harry enquanto casal.

For 5-6 months the two managed to keep the relationship private. When it all became public neither of them was fully prepared for everything that happened. Although both were public figures the surprise was huge. Meghan said that despite her job as actress, she had always lived a relatively simple and calm life and had no way of understanding or anticipating everything that happened. About everything that was wrongly written or spoken, Meghan said she simply decided not to read anything. Neither the good nor the bad. Both decided to focus on what they considered important: themselves and their relationship! About the racial prejudice she was targeted at, Meghan confesses that it is sad to think that this detail is the focus of so much attention. But what matters is that she feels truly proud of where she comes from and who she is, and that was very important to get away from all that noise and focus on building her relationship with Harry as a couple.

Como a relação deles é algo novo dentro da Monarquia Britânica e como Meghan encara o seu futuro papel / How their relationship is something new within the British Monarchy and how Meghan sees her future role

Harry não considera a sua relação como algo de novo. Para ele é uma nova pessoa na família que irá fazer parte de uma equipa maior e que irá dar o seu contributo ao serviço de algo maior. Harry acredita que parte da razão pela qual Meghan apareceu na sua vida e se apaixonou por ela de uma forma tão rápida, é porque é isso que faz sentido agora. A altura é perfeita. São uma equipa fantástica e ele sabe que ela será capaz de lidar com qualquer situação e juntos podem causar um impacto fantástico por causas que os preocupam. Meghan diz estar super entusiasmada com o seu trabalho futuro, por dar voz a causas que lhe são importantes ter acesso e uma voz activa a pessoas que estejam dispostas a ouvir. Está ansiosa por descobrir mais sobre as comunidades no Reino Unido, e sobre pequenas organizações que actuam em áreas que são importantes para ela. Meghan diz estar muito contente por através da plataforma que agora terá acesso, poder dar o seu contributo no país e por toda a Commonwealth.

Harry does not know if their relationship is something new. For him is a new person in the family who will be part of a larger team and who will make their contribution for a bigger task. Harry believes that part of the reason that Meghan came into his life and why he felt in love with her so quickly it's because all makes sense now. The timming is perfect. They are a fantastic team and he knows that she will be able to handle any situation and together they can make a fantastic impact for causes that concern them. Meghan says she is overly enthusiastic about her future work, giving voice to causes that are important to her, and an active voice to people who are willing to listen. She is eager to find out more about communities in the UK, and about small organizations working in areas that are important to her. Meghan says she is delighted to have access through the platform that will now be able to make her contribution in the country and throughout the Commonwealth.

Durante esta entrevista também ficamos a saber o quanto ambas as famílias estão contentes. Harry e Meghan realçam o apoio de ambas as famílias, nomeadamente do Príncipe de Gales e do Duque e Duquesa de Cambridge. Segundo o casal, Catherine tem sido fantástica com Meghan em todo este processo.

Meghan parece também ter conquistado outros membros muito importantes da família: os corgies da Rainha.

Segundo nos dizem, num dos primeiros encontros com a avó de Harry, os cães deitaram-se aos pés de Meghan a abanar a cauda, rendidos.

During this interview we also learn how much both families are happy. Harry and Meghan highlight the support of both families, notably the Prince of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. According to the couple, Catherine has been fantastic with Meghan throughout this process.

Meghan also seems to have conquered other very important members of the family: the Queen's Corgies.

As they tell us, in one of the first encounters with Harry's grandmother, the dogs lay down on Meghan's feet wagging their tails, completly surrendered.

Adorei esta entrevista. O contacto físico e visual entre os dois foi uma constante. A entrevista decorreu de forma natural e foram partilhados imensos detalhes de uma forma super descontraída que me leva a ficar super ansiosa por ver os compromissos futuros deste casal.

Meghan é uma mulher super doce, com objectivos claros e muito segura de si. Harry encontrou definitivamente uma parceira de equipa e não escondeu tanto em palavras como em gestos que está apaixonado e que esta é a mulher que ele sempre quis ter ao seu lado.

I loved this interview. The physical and visual contact between the two was a constant. The interview took place in a natural way and they shared a lot of details in a super relaxed way that makes me very anxious to see the future commitments of this couple.

Meghan is a super sweet woman with clear goals and very sure of herself. Harry has definitely found a team mate and did not hide so much in words and gestures that he is in love and that this is the woman he always wanted to have by his side.
