Duquesa da Cornualha apela à União entre mulheres nos Prémios Women of the Year / Duchess of Cornwall Appeals to Women's Union at the Women of the Year Awards
Deixamos hoje a Maxi descansar para viajarmos ao Reino Unido, onde ontem a Duquesa da Cornualha compareceu ao evento que celebra o fantástico trabalho de mulheres maravilhosas no Reino Unido.

O evento Women of the Year (Mulher do Ano) decorreu em Londres e foi celebrado com um almoço. Para a iniciativa foram escolhidas mais de 400 mulheres de acordo com a sua contribuição para a sociedade. Sendo a Igualdade de Género um dos Objectivos Globais das Nações Unidas para um Desenvolvimento Sustentável, não admira que eventos como estes ainda sejam frequentes e que sirvam de motivação para que mulheres, por todo o mundo, ganhem confiança em si mesmas.
The Women of the Year event was held in London and was celebrated with a lunch. For the initiative, more than 400 women were chosen according to their contribution to society. As Gender Equality is one of the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development, it is no wonder events like these are still frequent and serve as a motivation for women around the world to gain confidence in themselves.
Camilla, Duquesa da Cornualha presentou com o Prémio Barclays Women of the Year membros do corpo de emergência e serviços médicos de Manchester pelos seus serviços durante e após os ataques terroristas destes ano.

Durante o seu discurso, a Duquesa apelou à união entre mulheres, que devem reunir os seus talentos e esforços para a construção de um mundo melhor, mais justo e mais humano:

"(...) Nestes tempos turbulentos em que vivemos, acredito que é mais importante do que nunca que as mulheres, de todas as idades e de todos os quadrantes da vida, se mantenham unidas. Como o escritor victoriano Matthew Arnold uma vez observou: 'Se chegar o momento em que mulheres de todo o mundo se unam pura e simplesmente para beneficio da humanidade, isso será uma força como o mundo nunca viu.'

Como mulher, na minha realidade circunstancial, sei reconhecer que por vezes, não todas, os mais duros preconceitos e pré-julgamentos perante acções, pensamentos e posições que tomamos vêm precisamente de mulheres contra mulheres e não tanto de homens. E basta olharmos para o nosso lado e, acima de tudo para dentro de nós, para vermos o quanto isso é verdade.
Se queremos ver mudança no mundo, temos que começar em nós próprios. Se queremos ver respeito para as mulheres, cada uma de nós tem que respeitar as mulheres, começando por nós mesmas, pela nossa mãe, irmã, amiga, colega, desconhecida. Caso contrário por muito belas teorias que tenhamos, nunca seremos congruentes com aquilo que pensamos, sentimos, falamos ou agimos.
As a woman, in my circumstantial reality, I know how to recognize that sometimes, not all, the harshest prejudices and pre-judgments before the actions, thoughts and positions that we take come precisely from women against women and not so much from men. And we just need to look next to us and, above all, into us, to see how true this is.
If we want to see change in the world, we have to start in ourselves. If we want to see respect for women, each of us has to respect women, starting with ourselves, for our mother, sister, friend, colleague, unknown. Otherwise for very beautiful theories we have, we will never be congruent with what we think, feel, speak or act.
Não é fácil, mas todos temos o nosso tempo. Um desafio para todas. Eu incluída!
