Tiaras no 100º aniversário da Independência da Finlândia / Tiaras on the 100th anniversary of the Independence of Finland

We can always count on the Nordic countries for a great celebration. This time in Finland, the Heads of State of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland and, of course, Finland met to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the country's independence.

O dia começou com uma recepção em Helsínquia onde o Presidente Sauli Niinistö e a Primeira-Dama Jenni Haukio receberam a Rainha Margrethe II da Dinamarca, o Rei Harald V e a Rainha Sonja da Noruega, o Rei Carl XVI Gustaf e a Rainha Sílvia da Suécia, o Presidente da Islândia Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson e sua esposa Eliza Jean Reid.
The day began with a reception in Helsinki where President Sauli Niinistö and First Lady Jenni Haukio hosted Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden, The President of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and his wife Eliza Jean Reid.

After a lunch at the Town Hall, the Cultural Centre for Sweden and Finland - Hanasaari - was reopened, after extensive renovation and expansion, in the presence of heads of state and their spouses.

The evening ended with a gala dinner at the Presidential Palace, where we surprisingly had tiaras for the attending Queens.

Queen Margrethe II used the Baden Palmette Tiara, Queen Silvia wore the Baden Fringe Tiara and Queen Sonja wore Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara. The three ladies, as well as the first ladies present, used Finnish Orders. When the Great Necklace of an Order is used, in this case of the Order of the White Rose, the use of the respective sash is excused. That's why Harald V, Margrethe II, Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia are not wearing the Order of the White Rose blue sash.

Queen Sonja of Norway does not possess the Great Necklace of the Order of the White Rose, that's why she is wearing the sashe of her respective rank of the Order. And she seems to be explaining exactly this to the Icelandic President. The same goes for the other ladies. The Finnish President is wearing the yellow sash of the Finnish Order of the Cross of Liberty.
