Mas ontem no Reino Unido também foi de Dia de agradecer. A Rainha Elizabeth II e o Duque de Edimburgo, acompanhados pelo Conde e Condessa de Wessex marcaram presença num Serviço de Acção de Graças em celebração de Jubileu de Diamante do Prémio Duque de Edimburgo, na Abadia de Westminster em Londres.
But yesterday in the UK was also time to be thankful. Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by the Earl and Countess of Wessex, attended a Thanksgiving service in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of The Duke of Edinburgh Award at Westminster Abbey in London.



60 anos passaram desde a criação deste Prémio, destinado a jovens entre os 14-24 anos, e fundado em 1956 pelo Duque de Edimburgo. Milhões de jovens por todo o Reino Unido já participaram neste Prémio que lhes dá uma oportunidade de transformar as suas vidas e atingirem o seu máximo potencial através de três categorias de desempenho (Broze, Prata e Ouro).
60 years have passed since the creation of this Award, aimed to young people between 14-24 years, and founded in 1956 by the Duke of Edinburgh. Millions of young people across the UK have already participated in this Award which gives them an opportunity to transform their lives and reach their full potential through three performance categories (Broze, Silver and Gold).

Com áreas de actuação diferentes, os Prémios colocam a disposição vários desafios nos quais os jovens têm que dar tudo de si para os cumprir.
With different areas of action, the Awards offer several challenges in which young people have to do an extra mile to fulfill them.



Durante o serviço religioso, o Diácono da Abadia de Westminster, Reverendo Dr. John Hall disse:
During the service, the Dean of Westminster Abbey, Reverend Dr. John Hall said:

"Celebramos em especial a Fundação do Prémio Duque de Edimburgo e o compromisso de Sua Alteza Real para o seu sucesso nos últimos sessenta anos, juntamente com um número incontável de voluntários que deram o seu tempo e entusiasmo, bem como o crescente número de jovens beneficiários do desafios e feitos do Prémio. Pedimos para que todos os jovens possam crescer fortes, bons, e verdadeiros e que possam aprender que é melhor dar que receber, e servir melhor que ser servido." 
"We celebrate in particular The Duke of Edinburgh’s foundation of the Award, and His Royal Highness’s commitment to its success over the past sixty years, together with the untold numbers of volunteers who have given their time and enthusiasm, and the constantly growing number of young people benefiting from the Award’s challenge and achievement. We pray that all young people may grow to be strong, good, and true, and may learn that it is better to give than to receive, and to serve than to be served."

No serviço estiveram presentes cerca de 2,000 pessoas de alguma forma ligadas à organização. Algumas delas deram o seu testemunho em como este Prémio e o desafio que completaram lhes mudou drasticamente a vida.
About 2,000 people were present in the service in some way linked to the organization. Some of them gave their testimony on how this Award and the challenge they completed drastically changed their lives.



O Príncipe Edward, Conde de Wessex, que administra o Prémio Duque de Edimburgo contou algumas histórias de participantes e fez um breve discurso, onde não só se referiu à importância destes Prémios como ao carácter do seu Fundador:
Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, trustee of The Duke of Edinburgh Award, told a few stories of participants and made a brief speech, not only referring to the importance of this Award but also to the character of his Founder:

" Nenhuma destas histórias que contei são desconhecidas para o nosso Fundador e Patrono, contudo, como provavelmente a pessoa mais modesta e sem pretensões que conheço, ele nunca sonharia em ficar com o mais leve crédito de nenhuma delas. Ainda assim, todas estas pessoas sabem, quer venham de uma comunidade de viajantes, de uma comunidade judaica, de uma comunidade muçulmana, de uma comunidade Maori, de uma favela no Quénia, de uma prisão na África do Sul, de um hospital no Ghana, da Irlanda, Escócia, Gales ou Inglaterra que este Prémio leva o seu nome, e que você o estabeleceu e o tornou possível porque tem fé nas pessoas. Os poucos que estão aqui reunidos hoje, neste magnifica Abadia, representam os milhões que lhe querer dizer Obrigado; Obrigado por acreditar em nós, encorajar-nos e dar-nos a oportunidade de saborear um sentimento de satisfação através da superação."
"None of the stories I've told are unfamiliar to our Founder and Patron, however, as probably the most self-effacing and modest person I know, you would never dream of taking the slightest credit for any one of them. Yet they all know, whether they come from a traveller's community, a Jewish community, a Muslim community, a Maori community, a Kenyan slum, South African prison, Ghanaian hospital, Ireland, Scotland, Wales or England that this Award bears your name, that you started it and you did it because you have faith in people. The few who are gathered here today in this magnificent Abbey represent the millions who want to say thank you; thank you for believing in us, encouraging us and giving us the chance to savour that sense of satisfaction though achievement."


O Prémio está actualmente disponível em mais de 140 países e já inspirou milhões de jovens a servirem as suas comunidades e a aventuraram-se a aprender, fora das salas de aula, através da aventura e do desenvolvimento.
The Award operates in more than 140 countries and has inspired millions of young people to serve their communities, experience adventure and develop and learn outside of the classroom.



O Duque de Edimburgo disse a propósito deste Jubileu:
The Duke of Edinburgh said on this Jubilee:

"O crescimento deste projecto deve tudo ao número imensurável de voluntários que deram o seu tempo e entusiasmo em beneficio de um crescente número de jovens por todo o mundo." 
"The growth of the scheme owes everything to the untold numbers of volunteers who have given their time and enthusiasm to bring its benefits to a constantly growing number of young people all over the world."

A própria Condessa de Wessex participou este ano no Desafio de Diamante em comemoração dos 60 anos deste Prémio.
The Countess of Wessex herself participated this year in the Diamond Challenge in commemoration of the 60 years of this Award.

Defensora acérrima deste reconhecimento, a Condessa de Wessex mostrou toda a sua elegância num conjunto azul petróleo que combinou com um chapéu onde se destaca a plumagem rosa blush.
A staunch defender of this recognition, the Countess of Wessex showed all her elegance in a blue oil set that combined with a hat where the pink blush plumagestands out.


60 anos é uma vida. 60 anos a transformar vidas é uma bênção.
60 years is a life time. 60 years of transforming lives is a blessing.
