Hoje trago-vos um membro da realeza de quem raramente falo, mas que pela natureza do seu mais recente compromisso oficial achei fulcral trazer aqui. Até porque se trata de um futuro Rei.
Today I bring you a member of the royalty of whom I rarely speak, but by the nature of his most recent official commitment I find it vital to bring here. Despiste that, he is a future King.
Após o bem-sucedido tour pelos Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Bahrain e Oman o Príncipe de Gales ofereceu ontem no Palácio de St James uma recepção para celebrar o 60º aniversário da organização Abbeyfield, da qual é patrono desde 1979.
Following a successful tour across the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman the Prince of Wales hosted yesterday a reception in St James's Palace to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Abbeyfield organization, from which he is patron since 1979.

Esta organização caritativa oferece um lar seguro a pessoas idosas, no qual elas possam encontrar amizade e apoio.
This charitable organization provides a safe home for the elderly, where they can find friendship and support.

A primeira Casa Abbeyfield foi estabelecida em 1956 por Richard Carr-Gomm, ao aperceber-se que muitas pessoas idosas viviam sozinhas e sentiam-se isoladas nas suas próprias comunidades. Hoje esta organização tem mais de 500 casas e lares geridas por pessoal especializado e voluntários, por todo o Reino Unido.
The first Abbeyfield House was established in 1956 by Richard Carr-Gomm, who realized that many older people lived alone and felt isolated in their own communities. Today this organization has more than 500 houses and homes run by specialized staff and volunteers all over the UK.
Durante a celebração, o Príncipe de Gales conversou com membros do staff e com pessoas que vivem nas várias casas disponibilizadas pela organização.
During the celebration, the Prince of Wales spoke with staff members and people living in the several homes provided by the organization.

" Vocês são um dos grandes exemplos de como as pessoas mais velhas podem ser bem-cuidadas, e Graças a Deus que vocês estão aí para fazerem exactamente isso. Por isso, Senhoras e Senhores, muitos Parabéns e desejo que esta data se repita por muitos, muitos anos de ainda maior sucesso no cuidado das pessoas idosas".
"It is one of the great examples of how elderly people can be cared for and thank goodness you're there to do exactly that. So, Ladies and Gentlemen, many congratulations and I hope there will be many, many more years of even greater success in looking after elderly people."
Esta ocasião também serviu para o lançamento da iniciativa Golden Moments (Momentos D'Ouro), de forma a combater a crescente solidão sentida pelos idosos.
This occasion also served to launch the initiative Golden Moments, in order to combat the growing loneliness felt by the elderly.

Durante a minha actividade de investigação, os projectos que envolviam parâmetros de saúde de pessoas idosas, foram aqueles que mais prazer me deram. Adorei trabalhar com esta faixa etária. Estou bem ciente dos seus problemas, desafios e sentimentos. E no entanto, foram aqueles que mais reconhecimento me deram em retorno.
During my research activity, the projects involving health parameters of elderly people were the ones that gave me the most pleasure. I loved working with this age group. I am well aware of their problems, challenges and feelings. And yet, they were the ones who gave me the most recognition in return.
A meu ver, existem poucos membros da realeza a dar a cara por este grupo tão especial da população e por isso mesmo, Obrigada Carlos!
In my opinion, there are few members of royalty using their voice on behalf of this special group of the population and for this very reason, I thank you Charles!
This is such an important cause - older people deserve time and respect. Prince Charles is doing a great job as a patron :-)

Yes, it's a very important cause, because in several countries, like Portugal, the elderly are an huge part of the population and their situation might become a real social problem, because older people are seen as a problem and not as part of a solution. Older people, often and often again can make a difference in society, because they live longer but they can still be very active and a vital part on their local communities. I feel very sad to watch older people being treated as an embarrassment. It's just not right!
