Em dia de aniversário.../On anniversary day....

Felipe and Letizia of Spain married exactly 11 years ago this day. 22nd May. Last year the T & T celebrated the 10th wedding anniversary of the Princes of Asturias in full (see here, here, here and here )

On this anniversary day we remember ... the groom's mother!

D. Sofia de Bourbon was a proud mother on this day. Thrilled but I would say also worried. She who dedicated her entire life to Spain and King predicted that this marriage would forever change the course of history of the Spanish monarchy. Or at least  I like to believe that she thought so.

And why talking about D. Sofia today? Because the elegance and poise of her costume. With a beautiful green water dress, the Queen of Spain, born a Greek Princess but with a Spanish heart, completed the simple costume with truly Spanish accessories. A long black lace Matilla and an imposing peineta (a very high comb) and a necklace and earrings with diamonds and emeralds.

In 2004 she was a proud mother, but also a careful and traditional Queen.

Recently there was talk that D. Letizia broke protocol when recently for the delivery of the national flag to the 11th Teach Zone of the Guardia Civil, the new Queen did not wear a long black dress or matilla with the usual peineta, as usual (but no rule) in the previous reign. Apparently there is no indication in the protocol accordingly to require this dress code.
Mas sinceramente, eu gostava que houvesse....
But honestly, I wish there was...

Com ou sem matilla?
With or without matilla??
