O controverso filme Grace do Monaco ainda disponível em algumas salas de cinema é para ser visto sem nenhuma expectativa. Só assim poderá ser...tolerável.

Grace do Mónaco /Grace of Monaco

O filme conta a história da antiga estrela de Hollywood Grace Kelly nos primeiros anos como Princesa do Monaco. A crise no seu casamento e identidade durante a disputa política entre o Príncipe Rainier III e o General Charles de Gaulle e uma iminente invasão no Mónaco no início da década de 60.

The film tells the story of the former Hollywood's star Grace Kelly in the early years as Princess of Monaco. The crisis in her marriage and identity during a political dispute between the Prince Rainier III and General Charles de Gaulle and an imminent invasion in Monaco in the early 60s.

O filme foi abertura este ano no Festival de Cannes. A história diz...

Grace, apesar de ter casado há alguns anos, não se sente verdadeiramente Princesa da sua nova Pátria e é constantemente criticada por não se encaixar no papel de Princesa consorte. O seu casamento também já viveu melhores dias pois o temperamento tempestuoso de Rainier não abre muito espaço ao diálogo. A crise dos impostos vivida entre França e o Mónaco e uma quase irrecusável proposta para participar em mais um filme abrem caminho para o linha de argumento que não é má, mas que não chega!

The film is opening this year at the Cannes Film Festival. The story goes ... 

Grace, despite having married a few years ago, does not feel truly Princess of hes new homeland and is constantly criticized for do not act as a Princess Consort. Her marriage has also seen better days since the stormy temperament Rainier does not open much room for dialogue. The crisis taxes lived between France and Monaco and an almost irresistible proposal to participate in another film paves the way for the line of argument that is not bad, but is not good enough!

Somos logo avisados que os factos relatados no filme são puramente ficcionais (ponto de discórdia entre o realizador e o Palácio dos Grimaldi que se recusaram a aceitar este guião como real e válido). No entanto biografias à parte, o papel que Grace terá alegadamente participado para a resolução da crise do Mónaco, é neste filme explorado de forma ridícula.

We are soon told that the facts stated in the film are purely fictional (point of contention between the director and the Palace of the Grimaldi who refused to accept this script as real and valid). However biographies aside, the role that Grace allegedly participated in resolving the crisis of Monaco, is explored in this film  on a quite ridiculous way.

A imagem que passa de Grace é de uma mulher sedenta de amor e carinho que de uma forma ingénua e quase infantil evitou um conflito. Não me entendam mal, penso que os conflitos podem ser de facto resolvidos de uma maneira muito simples, mas aquele discurso final em pleno Baile da Cruz Vermelha ainda me causa arrepios (e não é no bom sentido).

The Grace's image that pass is of a woman  thirsty of love and affection that on a naive, childlike way avoided a conflict. Do not misunderstand me, I believe that conflicts can actually be solved in a very simple way, but that final speech during the Red Cross Ball still gives me chills (and not in a good way).

Á parte disso, a interpretação de Tim Roth é soberba. Nicole Kidman, apesar de muito bem caracterizada não me convence de todo.

Mas sabem que mais? Nem a própria Grace me convenceu, dado o que já li e vi sobre ela.

Aside this, the interpretation of Tim Roth is superb. Nicole Kidman, although well characterized did not convince me at all. But you know what? Neither Grace herself convinced me, given what I've read and seen about her.
