Numa semana em que aguardamos com grande antecipação a Proclamação do novo Rei de Espanha (a Lei da Abdicação foi votada e aprovada no Congresso com 299 votos sim, 19 votos não e 23 abstenções) e depois da última aparição da Rainha Sofia, achei que seria adequado trazer a esta espaço uma das peças mais imponentes dos cofres espanhóis e que será com certeza herdada pela futura Rainha de Espanha.

In a week when we await with great anticipation the proclamation of the new King of Spain (the Act of Abdication was voted and passed by the Congress with 299 yes votes, 19 no votes and 23 abstentions) and after the last appearance of Queen Sofia, I  thought it would be appropriate to bring to this space one of the most impressive jewels of the Spanish vaults and that will certainly be inherited by the future Queen of Spain.

Tiara Flor de Lís / Fleur de Lys Tiara

Esta imponente tiara foi feita por Ansorena em 1906. A tiara foi um presente do Rei Alfonso XIII de Espanha à sua mulher, a Rainha Victoria Eugénia, nascida Princesa de Battenberg e neta da Rainha Victoria do Reino Unido. 

A tiara representa três grandes motivos de flor de lís, cada uma preenchida com enormes diamantes redondos e assente numa base de platina. A importância da flor de lís é claramente simbólica, pois é o símbolo da Casa Real de Bourbon.

This imposing tiara was made by Ansorena in 1906. The tiara was a gift from King Alfonso XIII of Spain to his wife, Queen Victoria Eugenia, born Princess of Battenberg  and granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. 

The tiara represents three major fleur de lys motifs, each one filled with huge round diamonds and based on a platinum base. The importance of the fleur de lys is clearly symbolic as it is the symbol of the Royal House of Bourbon.

A tiara pode ser usada de uma forma mais aberta ou mais fechada. Victoria Eugenia usou esta peça como moda da época da maneira mais fechada no dia do seu casamento.
The tiara can be used in a more open or more closed form. Victoria Eugenia used this piece as the fashion of the time on a closed way in her wedding day.

Durante o resto da sua vida, esta tiara continuou a ser uma preferência para esta Rainha, mesmo no exílio.
During the rest of her life, this tiara continued to be a preference for this Queen, even in exile.

Victoria Eugénia emprestou algumas vezes a tiara à sua nora, a Condessa de Barcelona (mãe do actual Rei Juan Carlos), que a usou a cerimónia de coroação da Rainha Elizabeth II em 1953.
Victoria Eugenia sometimes lent the tiara to her daughter in law, the Countess of Barcelona (mother of the present King Juan Carlos), who wore it at the ceremony of coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Maria de las Mercedes tinha um espírito bem teatral e usou esta tiara em alguns retratos oficiais e outros mais descontraídos.
Maria de las Mercedes had a very theatrical spirit and wore this tiara in some official and some more relaxed portraits.

Quando a monarquia espanhola foi restaurada em 1975, a Condessa de Barcelona deu a tiara ao seu filho o Rei Juan Carlos, para que a peça voltasse a ser usada por uma Rainha de Espanha. Sofia, esposa de Juan Carlos, nascida Princesa da Grécia, herdaria esta magnífica tiara, de acordo com os desejos da Rainha Victoria Eugénia que deixou em testamento uma lista de jóias que seriam herdadas pelas futuras Rainhas de Espanha, na qual se incluía esta tiara.

When the Spanish monarchy was restored in 1975, the Countess of Barcelona gave the tiara to her son King Juan Carlos, so that the piece could be once again used by a Queen of Spain. Sofia, Juan Carlos's wife, born Princess of Greece, would inherit this magnificent tiara, according to the wishes of Queen Victoria Eugenie who willed a list of jewelry that would be inherited by future Queens of Spain, which included this tiara.

É uma peça exclusivamente usada por Rainhas espanholas (ou no caso da Condessa de Barcelona, por a legítima Rainha, caso a monarquia tivesse em vigor na altura). Sofia nunca emprestou esta peça a nenhuma das filhas nem à Princesa das Astúrias.
It is a tiara used exclusively by Spanish queens (or in the case of the Countess of Barcelona, by the legitimate Queen if the monarchy had in force at the time). Sofia never loaned this piece to any of her daughters neither to the Princess of Asturias.

A tiara terá feito a sua última aparição antes de mudar de cabeça no último jantar de Estado oferecido pelo Rei Juan Carlos I e pela Rainha Sofia de Espanha.
The tiara may have made its last appearance before changing head at the last state dinner hosted by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain.

Uma maneira bem clara de Sofia de expressar na sua última aparição de tiara como Rainha Consorte. Foram quase 40 anos ao serviço de uma Coroa que foi conquistada a sangue. Quase 40 anos, os últimos dos quais Sofia se manteve, para todos os efeitos ao lado do Rei, apesar das humilhações. Filha, e irmã de Reis, resistente ao exilio e à tragédia grega, Sofia manteve-se inabalável como co-comandante de um galeão espanhol que perdeu o rumo muitas vezes. Mas a portadora da Flor de Lís, não tremeu. Foi esposa, mãe e avó e acima de tudo um pilar de valores e moderação, de humildade e adaptação em tempos difíceis.

A Flor de Lís, muda de dona. Curiosamente não é uma peça que consiga imaginar Letizia a usar. Teremos que esperar. Mas ou eu muito me engano, ou vai passar muito tempo até vermos a maior tiara da colecção real espanhola outra vez.

The Fleur de Lys, changes owner. Interestingly it is not a tiara I can imagine Letizia wearing. We will have to wait. But, and I could be wrong, but my feeling is that we could spend a lot of time until we see the largest tiara  of the Spanish royal collection once again.
