Principe Edward completa 50 anos / Prince Edward turns 50

O filho mais novo da Rainha Elizabeth II e do Príncipe Philip do Reino Unido, celebra hoje o seu 50º aniversário.

Edward Antony Richard Louis nasceu a 10 de Março de 1964 no Palácio de Buckingham e é oitavo na linha de sucessão ao trono britânico.

The youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip of the United Kingdom celebrates today his 50th anniversary.

Edward Antony Richard Louis was born on March 10, 1964 at Buckingham Palace and is eighth in line to the British throne.

Ao longo dos anos e após vária tentativas de construir uma carreira fora da vida real, o Príncipe Edward acabou por se tornar um membro real a tempo inteiro representando, principalmente o seu pai em inúmeros actos oficiais.

Over the years and after various attempts to build a career out of royal life, Prince Edward eventually became a full-time royal, representing mainly his father in numerous official acts.

Em termos pessoas Edward casou em 1999 com Sophie Rhys-Jones, uma relações públicas. Ao casar a Rainha concedeu-lhes o condado de Wessex e Edward passou a ser conhecido como Conde Wessex e Visconde Severn. Apesar de ser comum quando algum príncipe real casa, ser-lhe concedido um ducado (mais importante em rank do que um condado) foi divulgado que após a morte do Príncipe Philip e a subida ao trono do Príncipe de Gales, Edward será intitulado Duque de Edimburgo. Pensa-se que foi desejo do próprio Edward ser nomeado Conde em vez de Duque por altura do casamento.

Regarding his personnal life he married in 1999 with Sophie Rhys-Jones, a public relations. By marrying, the Queen gave them the county of Wessex and Edward came to be known as Earl Wessex and Viscount Severn. Although it is common when a royal prince royal weds, be granted with a duchy (most important in rank than a county) it was reported that after the death of Prince Philip and the ascent to the throne of the Prince of Wales, Edward will be titled Duke of Edinburgh . It is believed that  it was Edward's desire to be appointed as Earl instead of Duke after his marriage.

Do matrimónio com Sophie resultaram dois filhos: Lady Louise Windsor (2003) e James, Visconde Severn (2007). Os filhos não terão títulos de príncipes nem tratamento de Suas Altezas Reais.

From the marriage with Sophie resulted in two children: Lady Louise Windsor (2003) and James, Viscount Severn (2007). The children will not have titles of princes or treatment of Their Royal Highnesses.

Recentemente Edward e Sophie têm vindo a suscitar um maior interesse da comunicação social britânica e internacional pelo enorme trabalho que desempenham em representação da coroa britânica. Apesar de discretos e longe das luzes da ribalta dos membros mais mediáticos dos Windsor, a verdade é que este casal tem ganho a simpatia e cada vez mais a admiração dos vários fans de realeza.

Recently Edward and Sophie have been arousing greater interest of the British and international media for the huge work they do on behalf of the British crown. Although discrete and away from the limelight of the media unlike several members of Windsor's House, the truth is that this couple has earned the sympathy and the increasingly admiration of many royalty fans.

Personally I think they are an example of commitment, dedication and simplicity in behalf of something bigger than themselves: the Institution they represent.
