From a distant land where traditions and legends blend with a unique culture and ancient costumes, today I bring you another story of a culture clash, where duty, honor and values ​​speak louder than life and are often confused with betrayal.

O Último Samurai / The Last Samurai

Este filme é um daqueles filmes, embora não relacionados directamente com uma personagem da realeza, que simboliza como poucos o sentido de honra por uma causa e pessoa (o Imperador) pelos quais vale a pena morrer, como herói ou como traidor.

Esta história foca-se na personagem de um militar americano que acaba por se render à cultura Samurai, após ter sido capturado numa batalha precisamente com o propósito de destruir os últimos samurais do Império do Japão.

This film is one of those movies, though not directly related to a royal personage, that symbolizes as few do, the sense of honor for a cause or person (the Emperor) by which is worth dying as a hero or a traitor. 

This story focuses on the character of an American soldier who ends up surrendering to the Samurai culture, after having been captured in battle precisely with the purpose of destroying the last samurai group of the Empire of Japan.

Após a volta do Imperador ao poder central no Japão, o governo passou a contratar generais e engenheiros ocidentais para treinar e equipar o seu exército contra os Samurais. Após começar o treinamento dos soldados do Exército Imperial, o Capitão Nathan Algren percebe que não estão prontos para lutar e não podem vencer mesmo com armas de fogo. Durante a batalha o exército é massacrado mas Algren luta bravamente até ser rendido pelo líder dos Samurais, que fica impressionado com a bravura de seu adversário, poupando-lhe assim a vida, mas levando-o como prisioneiro. Durante a sua estadia com os Samurais, Algren acaba aos poucos se apaixonando pela cultura e valores dos guerreiros e passa a apoiá-los contra as Forças Imperiais e a ocidentalização desenfreada do país.

After the return of the Emperor to the central power in Japan , the government began hiring generals and Western engineers to train and equip his army against the Samurai. After getting the training of soldiers of the Imperial Army , Captain Nathan Algren realizes that they are not ready to fight and can not win even with firearms. However his commander , Colonel Bagley , insists send them to battle.  During the battle the army is massacred but Algren fights bravely until he rendered by the leader of the Samurai , who is impressed by the bravery of his opponent, saving his life, but taking him as a prisoner . During his stay with the Samurai , Algren has just gradually falling in love for the culture and values ​​of the warriors and shall support them against the Imperial forces and the rampant Westernization of the country.

Em pleno século de mudança (XIX), esta história mostra-nos que até a traição pode ser considerada relativa. Estes últimos samurais, que assumiam lealdade incondicional ao Imperador, fora banidos, perseguidos e executados simplesmente por essa lealdade de séculos (e claro pelo seu poder). A ocidentalização ameaçou a tradição e o estatuto destes guerreiros. O Japão entrou na era moderna com o Imperador Meiji, e o império tornou-se uma potência mundial no espaço de uma geração. Para trás ficou a Restauração Meiji, que aboliu o feudalismo, e restituiu todo o poder ao Imperador. Com isso, os Samurais já em declínio, foram considerados traidores e acabaram por se extinguir.
In full century of change (XIX), this story shows us that even treason can be considered relative. The last samurai, who assumed unconditional loyalty to the Emperor, had banned, persecuted and executed simply for their loyalty for centuries (and of course because of their power). The Westernization threatened the tradition and status of these warriors. Japan entered in the modern era with the Emperor Meiji, and the empire became a world power in only one generation. For the History rest the Meiji Restoration, which abolished feudalism and restored all power to the Emperor. With this, the Samurai already in decline, were considered traitors and eventually become extinct. 

Um filme a ver e a rever, apesar de passar uma imagem mais romântica do que realmente aconteceu.
