Que Tiara para a Rainha Máxima? Which Tiara for Queen Máxima?

E chegámos ao fim desta rubrica iniciada a propósito do Dia da Entronização dos Príncipes da Coroa Willem-Alexander e Máxima da Holanda no próximo dia 30 de Abril.Até agora apenas falei sobre as tiaras que a Princesa Máxima já usou e que podem voltar a ser vistas neste dia.

And we have reached the end of this line started in connection with the Day of the Enthronement of the Crown Prince Couple Willem-Alexander and Máxima  of the Netherlands on 30th April.

So far we only talked about the tiaras Princess Máxima already wore as a Princess  and that could  be seen once again on this day.

Mas e se Máxima resolver surpreender e usar uma tiara que nunca usou antes? Todos sabemos que Máxima pode e gosta de surpreender e é bem possível que neste dia ela prefira uma peça "nova". Estes são os meus palpites e não serei imparcial na hora de escolher qual a que gostaria de ver na cabeça de  Máxima.

But what if Máxima decides to surprise us and wear a tiara that has never used before on her? We all know that Máxi can (and likes) to surprise us and it is quite possible that on this day she prefers a brand "new" piece. These are my guesses and I won't be impartial in choosing which one I would like to see on Máxi's head.

"Württemberg Ornate Pearl Tiara"

As origens desta tiara majestosa continuam por definir e duas versões são sugeridas. A mais vulgarmente aceite dá conta de que foi feita em 1839 em Estugarda e oferecida à princesa Sophie de Württemberg, pelo seu pai, quando esta casou com o Príncipe da Coroa Willem, mais tarde Rei Willem III.  Mais tarde em 1897 a Rainha Wilhelmina mandou alterá-la  em Frankfurt pelos joalheiros Schürmann & Co de modo a poder ser usada de quatro formas diferentes, dependendo da adição ou remoção de enormes pérolas em forma de pêra que podem ser colocadas no topo da peça, entre cada motivo de diamantes.

The origins of this majestic tiara are not clearly defined, and two assumptions are generally admitted. The most commonly accepted, suggests that it was made in 1839 in Stuttgart by the jeweler Kuhn and presented to princess Sophie of Württemberg by her father, King Wilhelm 1st of Württemberg, when she married the same year the Crown prince Willem of The Netherlands, later King Willem III. Still according to this second hypothesis, the tiara was later removed in 1897 in Frankfurt by the jeweler Schürmann & Co., commissionned by Queen Wilhelmina of The Netherlands. Completely set with pearls and diamonds, its originality is that it can be worn in four different ways, depending on adding or not some large pear-shaped pearls, which can top the jewel and intrude between each scroll.

"Queen Emma’s Mellerio sapphire Tiara"

Feita em 1881 por Mellerio, esta tiara faz parte de um conjunto de safiras e diamantes, denominado “Grand Parure”. Foi um presenta do Rei Willem III à sua segunda esposa, a Rainha Emma. É composta por 655 diamantes sul-africanos e 33 safiras Kashmir. As pedras de maiores dimensões do topo estão dispostas segundo a técnica “pampille-en-tremblant”: assentes numa base de platina, as pedras tremem a cada movimento. Originalmente a peça central foi um broche usado pela Rainha Anna, esposa do Rei Willem I da Holanda.

Made in 1881 by Mellerio, this tiara does part of the sapphire and diamond "Grand Parure". It was a present from King Willem III of the Nederlands to his second wife Queen Emma. It is composed with 655 South African diamonds and 33 Kashmir sapphires. The large stones on the top are displayed following "pampille-en-tremblant" technique : set on thin platinum spikes, they tremble on each movement. Originally the centrepiece was a brooch worn by Queen Anna, spouse of King Willem 1st of the Netherlands.

“The Stuart Tiara”

A Fundação de Colecções Históricas da Casa de Orange-Nassau, responsável pelas mais importantes jóias da família real holandesa desde 1972, preserva um dos mais antigos e fantásticos conjuntos de todo o Gotha: o conjunto “House Diamond” ou “Stuart Diamond Parure”. É composto por uma tiara, um corsage e um colar e deve o seu nome à fabulosa pedra que é o seu principal ornamento: o diamante Stuart. A sua origem permanece desconhecida e deve o seu nome à rainha Mary II de Inglaterra (membro da dinastia Stuart) e esposa do Príncipe Willem de Orange, mais tarde Rei William III de Inglaterra que o adquiriu por £12,338. A pedra foi enviada para Amesterdão para adquirir a forma de pêra, com uns modestos 39.75 quilates. Como Mary e William não tiveram filhos, a pedra retomou à colecção holandesa, mas devido a questões politicas o valioso diamante voltaria à Inglaterra em 1797 durante o exilio do Príncipe Willem de Orange ( Stadtholder od Holanda),  onde um colar de diamantes foi encomendado aos joalheiros Rundell & Bridge para a sua esposa a Princesa Wilhelmina da Prússia, e onde o diamante seria usado como pendente. Durante muitas décadas foi desta forma que o diamante foi usado. Até que em 1879 o rei Willem III da Holanda encomendou ao joalheiro Van Kempen, um conjunto de diamantes por ocasião do seu segundo casamento com a Princesa Emma. O diamante Stuart foi então usado como pendente do colar desse novo conjunto. Dezoito anos depois o colar seria enviado para os joalheiros Schürmann & Co para a sua última alteração: foi desmantelado e o diamante foi usado como peça central de uma magnífica tiara usada pela Rainha Wilhelmina da Holanda pela primeira vez na sua cerimónia de Entronização em 1898. A tiara em ouro e prata tem vários motivos em diamantes, com várias pedras de maiores dimensões da Colecção real, incluindo 10 enormes diamantes em corte rosa. Foi desenhada para ser usada de três formas diferentes, sendo que vários elementos são removíveis, começando pelo Diamante Stuart. A Rainha Juliana deu-lhe bastante uso, ou contrário da sua antecessora. Já Beatrix nunca usou esta tira, existindo várias teorias para isso: gosto pessoal, peso da peça ou o facto desta poder ter sido desmantelada.

The Foundation of the Historical Collections of the House of Orange-Nassau, which manages the most important jewels of the Dutch royal family since 1972, preserves one of the oldest and most remarkable ceremonial parures of the whole Gotha : the "House Diamond Parure" or "Stuart Diamond Parure". Consisting of a tiara, a devant-de-corsageand a necklace, it takes its name from a fabulous stone that is the principal ornament : the "Stuart Diamond", also known as "Holland "or" Cone ". Of unknown origin but often described of the purest water, this slightly bluish hue diamond takes its name from Queen Mary II of England (from the Stuart dynasty and spouse of prince Willem of Orange, later King William III of England) who purchased the rough stone in 1690 from Sir William Langhorne for £12,338. Then it was probably sent to Amsterdam to become a splendid rose-cut and pear shaped diamond, weighing 39.75 carats. Since Mary II and William III had died childless, the stone came back in 1702 into the Dutch royal collection...but due to political events, she soon returned to England : in 1797, during the exile of prince Willem of Orange (Stadtholder of Holland) the London jewellers Rundell & Bridge were commisioned by princess Wilhelmine to design a diamond necklace using the diamond as a pendant. That is the way it was mainly worn for several decades. In 1879, King Willem III of the Netherlands ordered the jeweller Van Kempen to make a parure of diamonds on the occasion of his wedding with princess Emma of Waldeck and Pyrmont, and the diamond was then used as a pendant from the new necklace. But eighteen years later, several elements of this parure were sent to the jeweller Schürmann & Co. who dismantled them in order to serve the creation of an umpteenth and last parure : this time, the "Stuart" was permanently set on the top of a magnificent tiara that Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands wore for the first time on her Enthronement Day in 1898. Mounted in gold and silver and consisting of many diamond-set scrolls, the tiara also highlights several stones taken from the royal collection, including ten large round rose-cut diamonds and even a briolette-cut one. Being designed to be worn in three different ways, several elements are removable, starting with the "Stuart". Contrary to Queen Wilhelmina, Queen Juliana often wore the tiara. Due to her personal taste or to the fear of not being able to bear the weight, Queen Beatrix has indeed never worn it, nourishing recurring rumors about its possible dismantling.

Está encerrada a rubrica. Não escondo que adorava ver Máxima com o conjunto Stuart. Penso que causaria um impacto tremendo, por vários motivos: primeiro porque desde os anos 70 que este conjunto não é visto, e depois porque desde o século XIX que não temos uma rainha consorte no dia da entronização, logo não sabemos o que esperar em relação a jóias neste dia.

Optará Máxima, por uma jóia especial para ela, ou com grande significado para o seu país? Certo irá ser a nossa expectativa e ansiedade neste dia. De qualquer forma, qualquer que seja a sua escolha Máxima irá estar certamente inesquecível.

And that concludes our issue. I do not hide that i would loved to see Máxima wearing the Stuart. I think it would have a tremendous impact, for several reasons: first because since the '70s that this set is not seen, and then because since the nineteenth century that the Netherlands don´t have a queen consort on the day of enthronement, so we don´t really  know what to expect regarding jewelry to this day.

Will Máxima opt for a special jewel for her, or one with great significance for her country? Certain will be our expectation and anxiety on this day. Anyway, whatever her choice will be, Máxima certainly  will be unforgettable.
