Rainha Beatrix da Holanda abdica!

E eis que a semana começa com uma notícia bombástica.

Após 33 anos de Reinado a Rainha Beatrix da Holanda dirigiu-se ao país e ao mundo para comunicar a sua decisão de abdicar do trono em favor do seu filho mais velho, Willem-Alexander, Príncipe de Orange.

O vídeo da abdicação pode ser visto aqui e segue em baixo o discurso proferido traduzido para inglês, onde a Rainha diz que foi uma honra servir o país ao longo de toda uma vida, mas que o tempo de uma nova geração chegou e que não pretende com isto afastar-se do serviço à Coroa Holandesa nem do coração dos holandeses:

'As you all know, I hope in a few days to celebrate my 75th birthday. I am grateful that I have the honor this day in good health to be facing. At the end of this year we will commemorate our country two hundred years ago was a kingdom, which in our history, a new era dawned. The coincidence of these two special events for me to decide the inspiration for this year from my office to resign. It seems a good time to take this step, which I consider some years now actually take.

I have always regarded as an exceptional privilege of a large part of my life in the service of our country to adopt and implement under my command to be able to give the kingship. It was Prince Claus me many years to great support.

To this day, this beautiful task given me great satisfaction. It is inspiring themselves with people involved feel, to live with grief and share in times of joy and national pride. I have also been able to experience in the Caribbean parts of our kingdom, where I always much warmth and cordiality have encountered. I come therefore not return because the office too heavy for me to fall, but from the conviction that the responsibility for our country now in the hands of a new generation must lie. It is with the greatest confidence that I am on 30 April this year the kingdom shall hand over to my son, the Prince of Orange. He and Princess Máxima are fully prepared for their future roles. They will serve our country with dedication, faithful to the Constitution and to maintain all their talents own interpretation to the kingship.

I feel strengthened by the thought that the way to my successor does not mean that I say goodbye to you. I hope many of you still often meet. I am deeply grateful to you for the trust you have given me in the many beautiful years in which I could be your queen.' 

A cerimónia de investidura dos novos Reis da Holanda será no próximo dia 30 de Abril.

O futuro rei ficará conhecido como Rei Willem-Alexander e será o primeiro Rei da Holanda desde 1890. A princesa Máxima será investida Rainha da Holanda na mesma cerimónia que será celebrada no Nieuwe Kerk em Amesterdão.

Com a coração dos pais, a Princesa Catharina-Amalia, de 9 anos, filha mais velha do casal, passará a ser Princesa de Orange, e a 1ª na linha de sucessão ao trono, o que faz com que seja a princesa herdeira mais jovem da Europa.

Quanto à Rainha Beatrix passará a ostentar o título de Princesa da Holanda.

Abdicação não é uma novidade neste país. Antes de Beatrix, também a sua mãe, Juliana, e a sua avó, Wilhelmina, colocaram a coroa de parte antes das suas mortes.

Não sou muito a favor de abdicações, salvo casos muito excepcionais. Confesso no entanto que estou bastante entusiasmada com esta noticia por ser a primeira coroação a que irei assistir.

Da minha opinião parece também ser a Rainha Elizabeth II do Reino Unido que quando informada da noticia  da abdicação da mãe de Beatrix, a Rainha Juliana em 1980 terá alegadamente exclamado: "typically Dutch!"

Uma nova geração sobe ao trono. Máxima será a primeira Princesa que o T&T segue a tornar-se Rainha.
