Há umas semanas pedi aos meus leitores algumas sugestões de tópicos a abordar no T&T durante o Verão. Podiam ser assuntos/eventos sobre os quais não falei aqui, podia ser uma opinião, ou um post de uma qualquer rúbrica existente no blog. Surpresa, ou talvez não, a maioria dos posts pedidos vêm ao encontro de certos temas/pessoas que eu tenho evitado falar aqui.  Não porque não tenha algo a dizer. Muitas das vezes tenho e gostava de escrever sobre isso, mas a verdade chocante é que, perante alguns assuntos específicos, não tenho mesmo opinião. Nem boa. Nem má.  Não precisamos opinar sobre tudo e sobre todos, principalmente neste ramo de comentar pessoas que não conhecemos pessoalmente. E é perfeitamente possível viver assim! Muitos deviam experimentar.

A few weeks ago I asked my readers for some suggestions on topics to cover on T&T over the summer. These could be topics / royal events that I didn't talk about here, it could be an opinion, or a post from any existing feature on the blog. Surprising, or maybe not, most of the requested posts meet certain topics / people that I have avoided talking about here. Not because I don't have something to say. I often have and would like to write about it, but the shocking truth is that on some specific issues I really don't have an opinion. Not good. Not bad. We just don't need to give our opinion about everything and everyone, especially in this field of commenting on people we don't know personally. And it is perfectly possible to live like this! Many should try it.

Porquê é que o T&T tem ignorado muitos acontecimentos/eventos da Família Real Britânica?

Why has T&T been ignoring so many events in the British Royal Family?

O T&T pode ter ignorado. A pessoa por detrás do T&T não. Escrever num blog generalista tem os seus desafios. Falar sobre todos os acontecimentos de todas as casas reais é difícil e nunca foi o objectivo deste blog. Uma das coisas que mais prazer me dá é falar sobre as caras menos conhecidas. Vivo num país republicano para o qual só existem as monarquias britânicas, espanhola e monegasca. E eu não consigo explicar-vos o quanto isso me irrita. Quando os Reis da Holanda e da Bélgica vieram cá em Visita de Estado, considerei vergonhosa a cobertura jornalística que se fez. Alguns "jornalistas" pareciam nunca ter ouvido falar nestas pessoas e achei que fiz um serviço público ao escrever aqui sobre as duas visitas. Vale o que vale...

Como tenho tido muita dificuldade em gerir o meu tempo desde que fui mãe, dou prioridade a escrever sobre coisas ou pessoas que é menos provável terem tido algum tipo de cobertura.

Sabem quantos blogs há sobre a família real inglesa? Eu também não sei, mas são muitos. Muitos e bons. 

T&T may have ignored it. The person behind T&T didn't. Writing in a generalist blog has its challenges. Talking about all the engagements of all royal houses is difficult and has never been the purpose of this blog. One of the things I enjoy most is talking about the lesser known faces. I live in a republican country in which most people only know the British, Spanish and Monegasque monarchies. And I can't explain to you how much this pisses me off. When the King and Queen of the Netherlands and the Belgian monarchs came here on State visits, I found the journalistic coverage that was made shameful. Some "journalists" seemed never to have heard of these people, and I thought I did a public service writing here about both visits. For what is worth ...

Since I have been having a hard time managing my time since I became a mother, I give priority to writing about things or people that are less likely to have had some kind of coverage.

Do you know how many blogs there are about the British royal family? I don't know either, but it's too many. Lots and good ones.

Tenho leitores de todo o mundo e sei que um evento em que a Kate ou a Meghan participem, ou qualquer outra noticia que rodeie a Duquesa de Cambridge e a Duquesa de Sussex, é tanto noticia em Portugal, como nos Estados Unidos, Brasil, Rússia ou Japão. Já sobre a Camilla ou a Rainha, já tenho as minhas dúvidas. E por isso, sei que a informação, seja ela boa ou má, chega até vós, porque o mediatismo que envolve a Casa de Windsor é global. Global e massivo!! Demasiado massivo, se querem saber a minha opinião.

I have readers from all over the world and I know that an event in which Kate or Meghan participates, or any other news surrounding the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex, is as much news in Portugal as in the United States, Brazil, Russia or Japan. Yet about Camilla or the Queen, I'm not so sure. And so I know that the information, whether good or bad, comes to you, because the mediation surrounding the House of Windsor is global. Global and massive !! Too massive if you ask me.

Mas podem dizer-me: "OK. Eu sei o que tem acontecido com a Kate, Meghan e companhia, mas o que eu quero saber é a TUA opinião, Lurdes. Quero aquela análise T&T que nos habituaste." E se pensarem isso, eu não tenho argumentos. É verdade. Falhei-vos! Quando penso em escrever sobre um evento que aconteceu há semanas ou meses na família real britânica penso: "Oh, mas o que vou eu dizer de novo que já não tenha sido dito por bloggers muito melhores que eu??" E é nesta altura que deviam sair mil mãos do ecrã para me agredirem, porque não só isso demonstra uma falta enorme de confiança em mim, como é uma falta de consideração para com todos aqueles que gostam de ler o T&T, principalmente agora numa altura em que os blogs generalistas BONS estão a fazer longas pausas.

But now you can tell me, "OK. I know what's been going on with Kate, Meghan and company, but what I want to know is YOUR opinion, Lurdes. I want that T&T analysis that you got used to." And if you think that way, I have no arguments. It is true. I have failed you! When I think of writing about an event that happened weeks or months ago in the British royal family I think, "Oh, but what am I going to say that has not been said by much better bloggers than I am ??" And this is when a thousand hands should come out of the screen to slap my face, because not only does this show a huge lack of confidence in me, but it is a disregard for all those who like to read T&T, especially now at a time when so many GOOD generalist blogs are taking long breaks.

Mas há outro motivo. Como a Casa Real mais mediática no mundo, a família real britânica e os seus membros (ou pode ler-se antes as suas duas mais recentes Duquesas) reúnem amores e ódios. Quem está minimamente ligado ás redes sociais hoje em dia sabe bem do que estou a falar, e a quantidade de artigos publicados são um lixo emocional ( e intelectual!) tão grande e o comportamento online de muitos fãs é de tal ordem bárbaro, que a vontade de falar sobre estes temas é muito pouca, porque sinto que só vou criar mais ruído, embora este blog tenha moderação de comentários e esteja num ambiente relativamente seguro. A verdade é que embora tivesse muitas coisas para dizer, opinar, comentar, sinto que isso não me iria dar prazer. E se não me dá prazer, se não me faz sentido,  não vale o esforço.

But there is another reason. As the most mediated royal house in the world, the British royal family and its members (or one may read their two stylish Duchesses) gather love and hatred. Anyone who is minimally connected to social media today knows well what I'm talking about, and the amount of articles published is such an emotional (and intellectual!) garbage and the online behavior of many fans is so barbaric that the desire to talk about these topics is very low, because I feel I will only make more noise, although this blog has comments moderation and is in a relatively safe environment. The truth is that although, sometimes, I had many things to say, to talk about and to comment, I feel it would not please me. And if it doesn't give me pleasure, if it doesn't make sense to me, it's not worth the effort.

Muitas pessoas não compreenderam porque é que retirei a Duquesa de Cambridge do "Best of" que faço no final de cada ano e introduzi a Duquesa da Cornualha. Muitos acharam que fui injusta com a Kate...Todos os males da Kate fossem não ser incluída num "Best of" de uma blogger portuguesa.  Compreendo que a Camilla (e o Charles) não sejam tão interessantes como os  Cambridges ou os Sussexes (bem, na verdade não entendo, porque eles são de facto fantásticos!), mas são eles o futuro imediato da monarquia britânica e para mim fez todo o sentido direccionar um pouco os holofotes do T&T para eles, em detrimento daqueles que causam mais histeria. Simples, assim.

Many people did not understand why I removed the Duchess of Cambridge from the "Best of" I do at the end of each year and added the Duchess of Cornwall, instead. Many thought I was been unfair to Kate ... As if all Kate's problems would be not be included in a "Best of" by a Portuguese blogger. I understand that Camilla (and Charles) are not as interesting as the Cambridges or the Sussexes  (well, I really an't quite understand, because they are really great!), but they are the immediate future of the British monarchy, and to me it made perfect sense to direct the T&T spotlight on them rather than those who cause more hysteria. That simple.

Quem lê o T&T desde sempre, sabe bem que não tive papas na língua (ou na ponta dos dedos) sobre determinadas pessoas, em determinados períodos deste blog. Escrevi e opinei sobre coisas que não sabia e talvez o maior balde de água fria que tive foi meses depois de ter escrito um post amargo sobre o Príncipe Henrik da Dinamarca em 2017, a casa real dinamarquesa ter anunciado a sua demência, acabando o Príncipe por falecer em 2018. Independentemente de tudo aquilo que separa aquilo que realmente acontece, daquilo que chega até nós, podem acreditar que me senti péssima. Também critiquei a Kate e o William pelo "pouco trabalho oficial" que levam a cabo. Hoje consigo ver muito além disso e consigo, talvez o mais importante, não me indignar com isso, porque o facto deles trabalharem muito ou pouco não me afecta. E a maioria das pessoas não britânicas que criticam é muito provavelmente porque queriam ter mais oportunidades para....criticar! Porque quem critica sem razão aparente alguém que não conhece, vai sempre criticar.  Hoje sei que é óptimo não ter uma opinião sobre tudo e assumir que há coisas que não sei e, que por isso, todo e qualquer juízo de valor que faça sobre uma situação que não conheça por dentro ou sobre alguém que não conheça pessoalmente é simplesmente inútil e desnecessária.

Anyone who has read T&T forever knows well that I have not had any language (or fingertip) filter on certain people at certain times in this blog. I wrote and gave my opinion about things I didn't  really know and perhaps the biggest bucket of cold water I had was months after writing a bitter post about Prince Henrik of Denmark in 2017, the Danish royal house announced his dementia, and the Prince died in early 2018. Regardless of everything that separates what really happens inside a royal family, from what comes to us, you may believe I felt terrible about what I wrote. I also criticized Kate and William for their "little official work". Today I can see much beyond that and, perhaps most important, I don't feel so upset about it anymore, because the fact that they work too much or too little does not affect me. And most non-British people who criticize are most likely because they wanted to have more opportunities to .... criticize! Because anyone who criticizes for no apparent reason someone who they really don't know, will always criticize. Today I know that it's great not to have an opinion on everything and to assume that there are things I don't know, so any value judgment I can make about a situation I don't know from inside or about someone I don't know personally is simply useless and unnecessary.

Resumindo: Os Windsor não me fizeram nada de mal. Gosto muito deles. E gosto muito de vocês que gostam deles (desde que não sejam maníacos psicóticos com a mania que sabem tudo o que se passa dentro das paredes do palácio só porque leram, num forum online, a opinião de 14531 pessoas que têm "fontes próximas" e vão buscar peritos em linguagem corporal e leitura de lábios para justificarem todos os seus argumentos e dão credibilidade a todos os artigos da imprensa britânica só porque há 20 anos atrás um jornalista até acertou naquilo que escreveu). Se forem esse tipo de pessoas, bem...têm que viver com isso. E eu também terei que viver  com o conhecimento que este tipo de pessoas existe e se acham os donos da razão.

In summary: The Windsor didn't do me any harm. I like them very much. And I like those who like them (as long as you are not psychotic maniacs with the certain you know everything that goes on inside the palace walls just because you read the opinion, in some royal online forum, of 14531 people who have "close sources" and go for body language and lip reading experts to justify all their arguments and give credibility to all articles in the British press just because a journalist even got something right 20 years ago). If you are these kind of people, well ... you have to live with it. And I will also have to live with the knowledge that these kinds of people exist and they think they are the owners of reason.

Se não escrevi mais sobre os Windsor foi porque A) Não consegui; B) Não quis, porque achei que não tinha nada de interessante para dizer; C) Não encontrei força de vontade para me aventurar nessa areia movediça; D) Uma qualquer combinação das anteriores.

Estamos esclarecidos? Mas agora que penso nisto, devia, definitivamente ter escrito sobre a Rainha e Olive, o Pato.

If I didn't write about the Windsor more often it was because A) I couldn't; B) I didn't want to because I thought I had nothing interesting to say; C) I found no willpower to venture into this quicksand field; D) Any combination of the above.

Are we clear? But now that I think about it, I should definitely have written about the Queen and Olive, the Duck.
