Acredito sinceramente que a União faz a força quando se trata de apoiar uma causa. Na esfera real, adoro quando duas (ou mais) das nossas caras favoritas coincidem num evento para chamar a atenção para uma determinada temática. Para ser sincera, sinto falta que isso aconteça mais vezes.
Ontem a Rainha Mathilde da Bélgica e a Rainha Letizia de Espanha estiveram presentes na cerimónia de abertura das Jornadas Europeias para o Desenvolvimento 2018 que decorrem em Bruxelas de 5-6 de Junho.
I sincerely believe that the Union make us stronger when it comes to supporting a cause. In the royal sphere, I love when two (or more) of our favorite faces coincide in an event to draw attention to a certain theme. To be honest, I miss this more often.
Yesterday Queen Mathilde of Belgium and Queen Letizia of Spain were present at the opening ceremony of the European Development Days 2018 which take place in Brussels from 5-6 June.

Este ano o tema principal da agenda é "Mulheres e Meninas na Vanguarda do Desenvolvimento Sustentável: Protecção, Empoderamento, Investimento." Mathilde e Letizia após um encontro privado no Palácio de Laeken, residência oficial dos monarcas belgas, chegaram juntas ao edifício Tour&Taxis onde decorreu o evento.
This year the main theme of the agenda is "Women and Girls at the Forefront of Sustainable Development: Protection, Empowerment, Investment." Mathilde and Letizia after a private meeting at the Laeken Palace, the official residence of the Belgian monarchs, arrived together to the Tour & Taxis building where the event took place.
Sendo a Igualdade de Género um dos temas centrais destas Jornadas, não é estranho que a Rainha belga tenha referido, no seu discurso, os Objectivos das Nações Unidas para um Desenvolvimento Sustentável, dos quais é defensora oficial. Além de referir a importância da implementação da Agenda 2030, Mathilde também deu especial foco à saúde mental como critério crucial para o desenvolvimento:
Since Gender Equality is one of the central themes of these European Days, it is not strange that the Belgian Queen referred in her speech to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, of which she is an official advocate. In addition to mentioning the importance of the implementation of Agenda 2030, Mathilde also focused on mental health as a crucial criterion for development:

"Como defensora dos Objectivos para um Desenvolvimento Sustentável das Nações Unidas, considero a saúde e a educação como as pedras angulares do desenvolvimento. Nesse sentido, defendo um desenvolvimento inclusivo que não deixe ninguém para trás, e que preste particular atenção às pessoas mais vulneráveis, como mulheres, meninas, crianças e pessoas com deficiência.
Hoje, gostaria de falar sobre a saúde mental e a situação das mulheres relativamente a este assunto. A crescente consciencialização do importante impacto da saúde mental é um resultado encorajador. É igualmente satisfatório ver os esforços realizados no sentido de quebrar o estigma que rodeia as doenças mentais. Mais recentemente, numa reunião de altos funcionários da ONU, a saúde mental foi descrita como um dos aspectos mais negligenciados da saúde global, e é, no entanto, crucial para a realização da Agenda 2030. A saúde mental é uma condição essencial para o desenvolvimento. É crucial para o bem-estar geral, e essencial para a realização de várias outras metas de desenvolvimento, incluindo a luta contra a pobreza, o acesso à educação de qualidade, a redução das desigualdades, a garantia de um emprego decente e crescimento económico. "As United Nations Sustainable Development Goals's Advocate, I see health and education as the cornerstones of development, and I believe in an inclusive development that will not leave anyone behind and pay particular attention to the most vulnerable people, such as women, girls, children and people with disabilities.Today, I would like to talk about mental health and the situation of women in this regard. Growing awareness of the important impact of mental health is an encouraging result. It is also satisfying to see efforts to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. More recently, in a meeting of senior UN officials, mental health has been described as one of the most neglected aspects of global health, and yet it is crucial to the implementation of the Agenda 2030. Mental health is an essential condition for development . It is crucial to overall well-being and essential for the achievement of a number of other development goals, including combating poverty, access to quality education, reducing inequalities, securing decent employment and economic growth. (...) The United Nations has an integral and holistic vision, but also a wise choice of instruments, arguments and policies that allow us to approach the goals set in Agenda 2030. These Development Goals are not only open perspectives, they also imply concrete and urgent commitments. The European Development Days this year give voice to these commitments, enabling us to enrich them, to support them with women and young people at the center of our testimony, our debates and our hopes. We therefore call on all people, on all citizens, on all young people, to believe in our personal and collective commitment to make our harmonious and sustainable development a reality for all. "
A Rainha Letizia de Espanha também foi convidada a partilhar a sua reflexão sobre esta temática. A Rainha espanhola recordou no seu discurso a sua recente viagem de cooperação realizada ao Haiti e República Dominicana para dar visibilidade e apoiar a cooperação espanhola, e salientando o papel desenvolvido pela mulher tanto no mundo desenvolvimento como em realidades tão distintas como na América Central:
Queen Letizia of Spain was also invited to share her thoughts on this subject. The Spanish Queen recalled in her speech her recent cooperation trip to Haiti and the Dominican Republic to give visibility and support to Spanish cooperation, and highlighting the role played by women both in the developing world as in Central America:
" No mesmo dia em que atravessei o bairro mais pobre do continente americano, Cité Soleil, no Haiti (onde fui há algumas semanas para dar visibilidade e apoio à cooperação espanhola), uma mulher foi nomeada nova presidente da Bolsa de Nueva. York Ao mesmo tempo em que o maior mercado de capitais do planeta era liderado por uma mulher pela primeira vez, Stacey Cunningham, outra mulher, Nadine, 17 anos, contou-me no seu melhor francês que seu filho, de três anos,não tinha nada para comer. E ela disse-me que não sabia ler nem escrever e que quase morreu no parto.
Provavelmente conhecem centenas, milhares de histórias como estas que ilustram as disparidades em redor do mundo. Vocês sabem que essas coisas acontecem. Todos os dias. E também sabem que falar sobre desenvolvimento humano é muito mais do que aquilo que entendemos por puro crescimento económico. A Europa foi construída sobre valores como a solidariedade. E essa é uma das razões pelas quais estamos aqui hoje. Porque a Europa desempenha um papel essencial nas políticas sociais que lideram o caminho para a cooperação. Como afirmam as Nações Unidas e a Comissão Europeia, uma abordagem transversal de igualdade é a espinha dorsal do desenvolvimento das capacidades que todo ser humano merece: oportunidades de educação, acesso a serviços de saúde e nutrição de qualidade e liberdade de movimento. Combater a combinação de pobreza e desigualdade de género exige um equilíbrio entre as esferas pública e privada de nossa vida, entre política e económica, família e crenças."
"Two weeks ago, I was walking around the most impoverished neighbourhood in the American continent –Cité Soleil, in Haití- (where I went to raise awareness and support for the Spanish cooperation). That same day, a woman was being appointed as president of de New York Stock Exchange. At the very same hour, when the biggest stock market in the world was being led for the first time in its history by a woman (Stacey Cunningham), another woman, Nadine, 17 years old, was telling me in her best French, that her 3year old son (just imagine), didn’t have anything to eat. She also told me that she could not read nor write. And also that she nearly died giving birth.You all probably know about hundreds, thousands perhaps, of cases that show similar disparities all around the world. You all know very well that these things happen. Every day. You also know that when referring to human development there is more to it than just pure economic growth.Europe was built upon such values as solidarity. And that is one of the reasons why we are here. Because Europe plays an essential role in the social policies that lead the way to cooperation. As the UN and the European Commission affirm, a cross-cutting equality approach, is the backbone in the development of the capacities that every human being deserves: education opportunities, access to health services and quality nutrition and to move freely and safely. Fighting the combination of poverty and gender inequality, demands a balance between both the public and private spheres in our life, between the political and economic, and family and beliefs."

Organizadas pela Comissão Europeia, as "Jornadas Europeias de Desenvolvimento 2018" reúnem a comunidade mundial de desenvolvimento para compartilhar ideias e experiências para inspirar novas alianças e inovar soluções para os desafios que o planeta enfrenta.
Este ano a agenda das Jornadas Europeias do Desenvolvimento de 2018 é desenvolvida em torno de três temas e prioridades-chave no contexto actual: "garantir a integridade física e psicológica de meninas e mulheres "(autonomia física); "promover o empoderamento económico e social de meninas e mulheres" (autonomia económica) e "fortalecer a voz e a participação de meninas e mulheres" (autonomia política).
Organized by the European Commission, the "European Development Days 2018" bring together the global development community to share ideas and experiences to inspire new alliances and innovate solutions to the challenges the planet is facing.
This year's agenda for the 2018 European Development Days is developed around three key themes and priorities in the current context: "ensuring the physical and psychological integrity of girls and women" (physical autonomy); "promoting economic and social empowerment of girls and women" (economic autonomy) and "strengthening the voice and participation of girls and women" (political autonomy).
